Agronomy Service Manager
CurrentAfter graduating from the University of Sheffield with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Plant Sciences, Richard Windows began his career in Agronomy with STRI working from a Glasgow base in 2000. From 2003, he became Official Agronomist to The R&A Championship Committee and has worked in this role for The R&A for the 2005, 2010 & 2015 Open at St Andrews, 2007 Open at Carnoustie, 2013 Open at Muirfield and 2016 Open at Royal Troon in addition to The Amateur Championship at Carnoustie in 2015 and Royal Porthcawl in 2016.Away from consultancy visits, Richard was co-author of The Disturbance Theory, which looked at favouring the development of fine grasses within golf greens using an understanding of principles based on comparative plant ecology and helped formulated the objective measurement agronomy service now widely adopted as the STRI Programme. In his spare time, he is a keen golfer and member of Royal Troon and has varying levels of success in cultivating his own crops on his allotment.
