Reporting to the CEO, Professional and English Programs, responsibilities included the leadership of a strategy and operations group encompassing finance, marketing, human resources, risk, quality and accreditation, learning, teaching and technology.Navitas Professional and English Programs (PEP) Division is part of the diversified global education provider, Navitas. PEP provides English language training to international students, migrants and refugees, and offers HE/VET courses in a range of disciplines including psychology, counselling, nursing, criminal justice, business and management. The division has approximately 1000 FTE staff and turnover of approximately $220m.

Leadership of the project to merge two divisions within Navitas. Responsibilities included directing project resources (including an external consulting team) to establish synergies and efficiencies created by the merger of the two Divisions, create a new management structure and implement a project management office to realise benefits from the project.

Leadership and management of nine campuses across Australia and one in Singapore, over 500 staff, up to 10,000 student enrolments each year (approximately 2000 concurrent students), and a turnover in excess of $50M per annum. Navitas English is the largest provider of English language training in Australia. The ELICOS and TESOL Programs (ETP) business unit operated nine campuses across Australia under the brands of Navitas English, Hawthorn-Melbourne, Australian TESOL Training Centre (ATTC) and Navitas English Test Centres (NETC).Reporting to the Executive General Manager – English Division, Navitas. Responsibilities include:• Leadership, management and direction of all functional areas of the business unit• Strategy development and execution of marketing and operational functions• Overall brand integration into the Navitas brand• Operational management of the ETP business unit.

The Tuition Protection Service (TPS) Advisory Board is part of the Education portfolio, and functions in an advisory capacity. The function of the Board is to provide advice and make recommendations to the TPS Director in setting the annual TPS Levy which is paid by all providers of education and training to overseas students.

Richard owned and operated Taktik – providing consulting services in strategy, implementation planning and project management and had a particular focus on projects where strategy and technology intersect, especially in the education sector.Projects undertaken during this time include:• Project management of a national project to develop federated search, discovery and download of learning resources from a network of Learning Object Repositories (LORs)• Project management of a large project for the Commonwealth Department of Education, Science and Training to develop a series of multi media products for school drug education (4 CD ROMs, 5 videos and a website) – this was a large, complex and politically sensitive project and involved extensive national consultation. Scope of responsibility included management of budget, timing and development of all deliverables• Managed and produced a national satellite broadcast to over 500 sites across the country on school drug education• Facilitation of annual executive management retreats and other strategy workshops • Development and implementation of financial models for the assessment and selection of a series of new strategic ventures (e learning products and OS investment opportunities in Asia)• Completion of a strategic review of a joint venture and development of a series of recommendations to redevelop corporate processes for the assessment and selection of strategic ventures• Development of a state government library’s Information Management and Technology Strategic Plan for 2004 2007

ACE was a leading school in the ELICOS (English Language Intensive courses for Overseas Students) sector in Australia. In 1996 it had been in operation for 15 years and had an annual turnover of $10 million, up to 100 staff and 4 campuses across Sydney. (In 2004, ACE was acquired by Navitas).Reporting to the Board of Directors and the Managing Director, responsibilities included: marketing and sales management; financial management; operations management; IT, HR and stakeholder relations.
