Richard reported to the Group Manager, Engineering in his role as Commercial Manager for the FKG Group’s engineering division. He was commercially responsible for all FKG engineering pre-contract and project performance which involves risk management, procurement, project commercial control and corporate reporting. Pre-contract responsibilities included the review, advice and direction of all Joint Venture agreements, MOU's, contracts and other commercial or legal documents. Richard led the review of all contracts being tendered and the risk apportionment negotiations including co-ordinating and implementing legal advice where necessary. Key achievements include:• Implemented robust operational and project commercial controls to aid accurate and timely reporting. This was achieved through implementing proprietary software, education and appropriate recruitment• Conducted a wholesale restructure of the commercial function with clearly defined responsibilities of the commercial staff for both commercial and operational team members• Resolved project disputes of significant value to the mutual satisfaction of both the Principal and FKG

Operations Commercial Manager, Northern Region Engineering, Dec 2009 to May 2013After project completion, Richard identified a need to provide commercial support for Abigroup’s increasingly diverse project portfolio. Through demonstrating his leadership, commercial acumen and problem-solving skills at project level, Richard was promoted to the newly created corporate role of Operations Commercial Manager, reporting to the Queensland Regional Commercial Manager. This role was project focused ensuring predictability in reporting and providing contractual, insurance and financial advice and commercial approval to the project teams. Projects ranged from $20m to $200m with an annual turnover to June 2012 of $700m. Key achievements include:• Documented and implemented a structured Contract Valuation reporting procedure which integrated with current systems and reporting requirements. This also improved early warning of potential issues• Interviewed, recruited and supported project commercial managers and their team members• Selected for Abigroup’s inaugural Leadership Development Program which was targeted at those who possessed outstanding competency and were seen to have the capacity to be future senior leaders

Richard was responsible for leading and developing a new commercial team whilst attaining buy-in into the alliance culture, procedures and strategy with design, engineering, client and other team members. He also oversaw a team of contract and project administrators to deliver timely and accurate commercial and financial reports. Key achievements include:• Demonstrated leadership as acting Alliance Manager on more than one occasion• Member of the Project Management Team (PMT)• The project won the Project Management Award and Leadership Overall Award by Engineers Australia (Queensland Division) 2010, which noted “$9 million dollars' worth of savings and their impressive use of Quality Targets through KRAs”. Richard oversaw the savings calculations and assisted with the development of procedures and scoring mechanism.

Enterprise plc, a support services business, was fully listed on the London Stock Exchange. After three months of setting up a maintenance contract for a local council water authority, Richard was transferred to the Metronet Contract to cover for a long-term absence of the Commercial Manager. Enterprise had been awarded a 7.5-year contract of £86million for the upgrading of pumps and drainage on the London Underground network. This was part of a larger 30-year PPP of £13billion. Richard reported to the Project Director in the absence of the commercial manager. Key achievements include:• Fulfilling commercial manager’s role for substantial periods of time• Provided consistent leadership and direction to the commercial team and the client through challenging times• After Metronet entered administration (3 years into a 30-year contract) in July 2007, the professional behaviour and delivery by Enterprise's team from the commencement of the package led to the contract being renewed directly with Transport for London

After an initial 3 month visa restricted period, I was sponsored by BH to work full time on various building projects reporting to the Senior Contracts Administrator. I was typically used as a trouble-shooter to value variations, resolve challenging subcontract disputes ($29m) and re-measure specific schedule items.Achievements:- Led the pricing, submitting and agreeing (in part) some 1,400 variations on National Gallery of Victoria project, Melbourne,- Remeasured disputed quantities on Crown Promenade, Melbourne.
