I have been practising in construction law both nationally and internationally over the last 20 years. I am experienced in a wide range of standard contracts including all forms of JCT, NEC and FIDIC including bespoke amendments as well as numerous bespoke forms of main contract and subcontracts, including EPC, process engineering and PFI Projects. I have experience in both domestic and international disputes and specialises in the resolution of construction and engineering disputes through the courts, arbitration, adjudication and all forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution. I have particular expertise in multi-party litigation. I have acted on a number of high-value, multi-party disputes in the Technology and Construction Court, ICC arbitration, ad hoc arbitration, adjudication and in mediations. I have considerable experience in adjudications, of all forms, including applications to enforce adjudicators’ decisions and the effect of insolvency on the enforceability of an adjudicator’s decision. I have also been involved in disputes regarding infrastructure projects, light rail, EPC contracts, contaminated land issues, PFI agreements, modular buildings, hospitals, residential developments and sports stadia. I have advised on projects, including many high profile projects, in a large number of jurisdictions around the world.Articles and teachingI regularly write articles for industry journals and give talks on construction issues both in house and at seminars. I completed the MSc in Construction Law and Arbitration at King’s College London. I also act as a dissertation supervisor.I have lectured at Cambridge University, The University of East London, Politechnico di Milano and University de los Andes.I have spoken at conferences in Kuala Lumpur, Sydney, Washington DC, Santiago, Lima, Delhi amongst many other places.MembershipsI am a member of TeCSA, the Society of Construction Law, European Society of Construction Law, the IBA International Construction Projects group, King’s College Construction Law Association and the DRBF. I was a council member of the SCL from 2008 to 2019. For most of this period I was the treasurer managing the finances of the Society and heavily involved in the promotion of the Society at all levels. From 2012 to 2014 I was Chairman of the SCL. I am now Chairman of the European Society of Construction Law and sit on the educational board of the Indore College of Law supporting the study of law in India.
