Empowered teams is something I like to build! And with my great experience as an embedded software developer and as a technical project leader within embedded security, I got the fantastic opportunity to set up a new team for ESCRYPT GmbH in Lund, Sweden, where I could apply this philosophy from a blank sheet. When I write blank it was really nothing, so together with 9 former colleagues we started up a new software center for Robert Bosch AB in Lund, and together we started to enable the office, hiring right people and kick-start the teams. The result until writing time is incredible, the challenges this team have overcome is fantastic. This made me realise that this is what I want to continue to do. The feeling to achieve something big is thrilling and drives me, and to do this with a team where all members are driven to reach the same goals is invaluable to me.To build these teams I have learned that it's incredible important to understand the target/goal from start. What is the stakeholders expecting? That is what the team need to delivery. And to understand the How. Company or business directions on how to make the work, as team leader I have to have this clear for me and for the team. Commonly the team have some fundamental input where they apply their work on/into, crucial to understand what this is. And it has been said before but needs to be fostered, communication! During my soon 30 years career I always discover lack in communication, coach team members to communicate.Me as a leader need:- To be open for new ideas, give support to drive these ideas.- Develop people.- To be supportive and gain trust.- Not only understanding but to give recognition, reward and encouragement.- Create a positive work environment.- Give team members authority and follow up on this.- Understand goals for the team, stakeholders expectation and processes that team need to apply.- Lead by example.- Drive not only the team but other activities at the company, business development, analyze standards, analyze new methods and anything that may be important for the company.The above is not just a theoretical philosophy but I have tried this in practice and the result is amazing!
