Whilst at Convergence Group I was approached to become the third line network team lead due to a proven track record with the business as well as the ability to lead a team, influence engineers across the business, and offer input on how processes and procedures should work and be executed within the wider engineering department. The team lead role includes all of the roles and responsibility of a third line engineer as well as working closely with the Core Network lead, NOC manager and Engineering director to ensure urgent work is completed on time and to a high standard. As a Team lead I complete QA reviews of the team’s calls and tickets which are then discussed and fed back to the individuals during monthly one to one reviews.

Responsibilities for my current role include taking the technical lead on projects, resolving technical issues that cannot be resolved by the second line team, educating other engineers including field service, second line, implementation and third line engineers. Other responsibilities include acting as an escalation point across the business, implementing new services such as NNIs, cloud based services and maintaining the core MPLS network. As a third line engineer there is also an element of design solutions and creating HLDs and LLDs during projects for standard and bespoke solutions. There is an on-call element to third line which involves taking escalation calls from the on-call duty manager or second line on-call engineer.

Responsibilities for second line at Convergence Group included dealing with complex customer incidents, acting as an escalating point and educating the first line and service desk team members. Whilst working on second line I also took specific requests from the NOC manager, internal team leads as well as internal escalations from across the business. Second line were responsible for most firewall changes made within the business across multiple vendors, these requests ranged from simple rule changes to building site to site VPNs or discussing and explaining advanced features of the firewall such as advanced web filtering. Part of the second line role was also to take part in the weekly on-call rota which acted as an escalation point for the 24/7 NOC.

Responsible for designing and implementing Ctalk ICE call centre solutions, both in a hosted and customer premises environment. Designed and implemented the core MPLS and voice infrastructure , including sourcing and configuring of appropriate networking equipment and Session Border Controllers, project management of voice and data carrier interconnects and managing the vendor relationships.
