As the first engineer at Instil (formerly DotOrg) I worked with the CTO to determine our software architecture and technical philosophy and wrote the massive majority of the code for the first ~8 months of the company until we started hiring additional engineers.Instil runs on AWS using a serverless-first approach, built using Python and DynamoDB running on Lambda. The Instil app is event-driven and runs on a custom MicroServices Framework, a custom lightweight Serverless Web Framework and a custom ORM layer between Python and DynamoDB all of which I designed and built and on which I and the rest of the Instil engineering team continues to build our web application upon.With an engineering team of 14, my role continues to be that of Chief Architect and Lead Engineer and I remain part of the Instil executive leadership team. My week is typically spent writing and maintaining our custom frameworks, interviewing technical candidates, guiding the engineering team, working with the Product team to help define Product Requirements and participating in company strategy meetings.

Grey Lake provided a platform for brands to source high quality custom photographs of their products at locations all around the world for a fraction of the cost of typical commercial photography engagements.As CTO I built and maintained the tech platform and the backend supporting systems all hosted on AWS Lambda (Python), API Gateway and DynamoDB with React UI and Laravel Vapor (PHP) based CMS.

Whilst immersing myself in Blockchain technology, throughout 2018 I worked on site at the Science offices in Santa Monica as a Technical Advisor on Blockchain investment opportunities.In 2018 I founded a Blockchain based technology startup and developed a product concept inthe gaming/sweepstakes space.

With the acquisition of AOL by Verizon the Gravity team was moved into the larger Content Services organization. Reporting to the AOL CTO I managed multiple geographically dispersed Engineering teams for the new Athena Content Services organization which encompassed the Gravity team, Amp team, Relegence team and ContentHub team for a total of about 60 engineers.The Athena Content Services organization within AOL was building a Services offering for Publishers to manage, publish, optimize and analyze content. We built these new services out on AWS with customers such aol.com, Huffington Post, Techcrunch and Autoblog. With the acquisition of Yahoo! and subsequent merger of the various products, orgs and tech stacks the Athena org was disbanded and all staff moved into the new Oath companies Media org. At Oath my role was to transition all users of AOL publishing services onto the Yahoo! publishing platform.

Gravity was a startup in the Ad-Tech space whose mission was to personalize the internet by understanding people's interests and creating more relevant experiences for them. Gravity was acquired by AOL in 2014 for $90M.At Gravity I managed the Engineering and Ops teams, doubling the Engineering team's size as we grew our customer base. I also took on some Product Management for our customer's reporting and configuration tools hosted on our website. Gravity customers included sites such Wall Street Journal, TMZ, WebMD, Techcrunch, Aol.com, Huffington Post, Readers Digest and Yahoo! News.In 2016 Gravity joined the Athena Content Services organization at AOL to build a MicroServices platform for media companies to manage, publish, optimize and analyze content with Gravity transitioning to a MicroServices based Engineering organization as part of that endeavor.Gravity moved all infrastructure to AWS in September 2016.

Ptch was a Dreamworks Animation funded Mobile App, eventually acquired by Yahoo in 2013.At Ptch I was employee #5, I hired and managed the engineering team which wrote all the app APIs and built the app's website. I was also hands-on designing, building and maintaining the application infrastructure entirely built from scratch using AWS. I also acted as Product Manager for the Ptch website. Our primary technologies supporting the app were Mongo, Python, Apache, Celery, Solr and Varnish.

As a VP in the Cloud Services Business Unit at HP, I reported into the Cloud Services GM as part of the Cloud Services Executive Team. I hired Datacenter, Systems, Security and Network Managers and Engineers and built out the entire Ops team as well as inheriting some personnel from the Cloud Services Engineering organization and from other divisions across HP. The team built out a small server infrastructure in a datacenter in Las Vegas for all development and testing and we finalized our network and systems architecture there, we also built in-house provisioning, configuration management and monitoring systems. I developed the division's datacenter strategy and evaluated datacenter space on the East Coast and in the UK in preparation for a Beta launch in summer of 2011 as part of that strategy. I also maintained relationships with strategic partners across HP (e.g. HP's excellent Datacenter and Server Technology teams) and with external vendors (e.g. Networking Hardware, Software and IT Service Providers)As an Executive for the business unit I was also involved in all Strategy discussions, many Product Management activities (definition, features, branding/marketing etc) as well as being responsible for all Capital and Operational budgeting for all IT related expenses. Another part of my executive duty included presenting to the CEO to communicate status and to justify continued investment in the Cloud Services effort. I also built the IT budgeting model based on our revenue forecast through 2015 which demonstrated all IT expenses as we grew into multiple worldwide locations and tens of thousands of servers.

I also planned the majority of MySpace's Capital Expenditure budgets ($100M+) and all IT Procurement.

At Stamps.com I was with the company prior to the launch of the service, for their IPO and their survival of the .com crash and through to profitability. When I left as IT Manager I ran all Production IT Operations and Corporate IT. Stamps.com is a 24x7 Internet Service with hundreds of thousands of paying subscribers where uptime is of course critical, as such the infrastructure and operations there were designed primarily for maximum uptime and (due to the nature of the service) very tight security.
