Witnessed the transformation of the specialty and medicine itself from a collegial to an industrial model. Participated in the training of multiple generations of residents, fellows, and young faculty. Developed independent research activity in patient safety and provided guidance for government, professional groups, and private entities regarding patient safety, incident reporting, accident investigation and analysis, and standards. One the the first to sponsor and moderate communciation between professional medical people and inured patients and family. Developed an international reputation as a provocative, exciting, and inspiring speaker on safety, work, and human performance. Worked clinically, taking regular night and weekend call, throughout the entire period.

Applications analyst performing structural and mechanical analysis using finite element programs including ANSYS, SUPERB, NASTRAN, STARDYNE, and MARC. Analyst for STAR-100 vector processer programming and code vectorization. Systems analyst and lead systems analyst for NOS and NOS/BE multimainframe Cyber-17x series. Manged teams of programmers and support analysts. Developed and conducted training for applications and systems programmers. Primary technical contact for major customers including Bucyrus-Erie, P&H Harnischfeger, Nordberg Machinery Group, Allis-Chalmers, Southwestern Bell Telephone, Gates Learjet, Cessna, and others.
