Wrote and maintained inventory and author accounting system used from 1985 to 1995 when owner moved to Windows program. Since that time have maintained Linux file servers for book creation which now includes many terabytes of images and PDFs as well as all original materials and the archival video from Hancock Wildlife Foundation.Hancock Wildlife Foundation is an offshoot of the owner's (David Hancock) biology work with eagles. In 2005 we hosted the first live camera in a wild eagle's nest during the nesting season (40,000 live streams for over 4 months), spawning what has now become a world-wide phenomenon.Installations include solar-power, underwater, long-shot wireless links and weatherproofed systems of all manner as well as back-end systems for dissemination and archival of the video produced and viewer interactions via web sites.

Co-wrote multi-user Canadian income tax preparation system and multi-company accounting system for client accounting for multi-site franchise using Tandy Model 16/6000 Xenix systems initially and SCO Xenix/Unix on Intel commodity hardware later.Implemented dialup remote update for branches/franchises across Canada including office e-mail and centralized customer data storage so customer could go to any branch for followup.Continue to maintain systems almost 25 years after initial work.

When I am not otherwise directly employed, Pacific Data Capture is and has been my business name since 1976. It was started as a sales vehicle for hand-held data capture equipment at the beginning of the microcomputer era, and has evolved through the years to encompass Unix/Linux systems design and implementation and more recently, internet communications consulting.At times I have had a staff as high as 15, but mostly it is myself and my wife along with several long-term associates with a broad range of skills as needed.

From the time I left Radio Shack until I joined with Wimsey's original founder, I ran Pacific Data Capture as a Unix software consulting service specializing in the new Unix on microcomputer hardware; from the Radio Shack model 16 and Apple Lisa to Intel-based systems running newly-formed SCO's Xenix and Unix operating systems.Systems we created included: - Taxi associate payroll system (integrated payroll for multiple independent owners and drivers) - Secondary school student record system including class scheduling - real estate MLS filing and tracking system - Canadian tax preparation system for multi-sites; database driven and still in active use today, 25 years later. - engineering drawing index for pulp mill (at a time when the IBM PC simply didn't have enough storage and mini-computers were too expensive)

Fireplug created some of the first embedded Linux firewall systems as well as products and applications using Linux in embedded vending and entertainment (juke box) systems. Fireplug also created drivers for Linux for the communications industry, including telecommunications; such as Asynchronous Transport Mode - TCP/IP add/drop muliplexers and various TDM products.Fireplug was sold to Lineo Inc. and our team became part of Lineo's embedded Linux system development business.

iSTAR was the first national ISP in Canada. It was build by acquisition of the leading ISPs in Canada at the time, one of which was Wimsey Information Systems - the ISP I was CEO of. As MIS manager of a company newly integrating 7 purchased regional ISPs it was my task to deal with not only systems integration but the cultural integration of employees used to working Windows, MAC and Unix/Linux, depending on which of the companies they came from.

Wimsey Information Services was the first commercial ISP in Canada; having been started in 1986. I merged my systems administration business with Wimsey (a customer) in 1990.From 1993 to when we sold in late 1995 we rode the 20% growth per month tide of the public's initial infatuation with the newly discovered internet.
