Poole Harbour Commissioners currently comprise a board of 12 non-executive directors (Commissioners) with a staff of some 110. Situated within the 10,000 acres of Poole Harbour, the Port of Poole is managed by the Poole Harbour Commissioners. The Trust Port was established by an Act of Parliament in 1895 to conserve, regulate and improve the Port and Harbour of Poole and for the construction of works and other purposes.Poole Harbour Commissioners’ main responsibilities are:Ensuring that statutory duties are fulfilled, such as maintaining an open PortMaintaining the shipping channels by surveying, dredging and marking with navigational aids such as buoys and lights.Providing a pilotage service for ships visiting the Harbour.Allocating areas of the Harbour for yacht moorings.Licensing works around the Harbour (e.g. construction of jetties, etc.).Providing and co-ordinating resources in the event of oil or chemical pollution in the Harbour.Contributing to the management of any maritime emergency in the harbour.Providing a 24 hour manned Harbour Control Office, for harbour traffic management and emergency response.Maintaining and developing Port facilities to retain existing customers and encourage new ones.Offering a full range of cargo handling services.Enforcement of harbour byelaws and keeping them under review.Taking account of the environmental requirements of the Transport and Works Act 1992 and other relevant legislation.Ensuring the safety of harbour users and employees alike.Addressing the obligations placed upon the Trust by legislation including the Waste Disposal Regulations and the Habitats Directive.

Working closely with UK government departments such as Department for International Trade and Department for Transport along with overseas governments and organisations I engage marine industry businesses from the superyacht, leisure and commercial sectors both in the UK and internationally also creating Meet the Buyer events, trade missions, attendance at overseas boat shows, exhibitions and networking receptions some of which have an enhanced presence in the form of a British Pavilion created and managed by my department. All of this is underpinned by an extensive knowledge of the global marine sector and the ability to seek business opportunities, successfully manage an international business development department. I also sit on the Maritime UK Investment and Export Committee and Vice Chair of the ICOMIA Export Committee.

A requirement for a wide range of knowledge in various subjects affecting members businesses from the MCA LY3 code to Local Enterprise Partnership funding, the role demands confidence and interactive dialogue at all levels from large superyacht builders to small product retailers.

A sales, marketing and business facilitation specialist for the luxury yacht and UHNWI and HNWI arena in addition to producing two of the finest luxury yacht publications in the world. Assisting other luxury yacht clients through consultation to create innovative platforms to launch and satisfy their existing or current sales & marketing campaign objectives through media and event vehicles. Design and production of printed and electronic promotional materials in support of campaign and event objectives. Design, publishing and production of sales and marketing materials both in hard copy and digital formats for superyacht owners and high net worth individuals and management companies. Satisfying specific customer requirements from ‘decision to delivery’ whilst remaining within financial constraints.

I worked for 3 pharmaceutical companies during this period, commencing as a Medical Representative and progressing to Regional Sales Manager specialising in Neurological, Cardiac, Respiratory and Gastro-Intestinal disease areas.Management of a £multi-million budget and development of 32 Territory Managers/General Medical Sales and Hospital Sales Representative for revenue generation within approved marketing campaigns for ethical prescription medicines. Development and creation of additional promotional materials in support of current sales and marketing campaigns. Conference management within budget to provide suitable UK and European venues for staff and client purposes. Recruitment and training of staff during two major field force expansions to satisfy the promotional objectives for the launch of ‘blockbuster’ products. Contributor to various project management teams including the Sales Tactical Implementation Group (STIG) to respond to sales and marketing campaign adjustments within a volatile marketplace. Autonomous financial control of a 7 figure budget covering local and regional needs in order to satisfy targets and objectives.

Various Fire & Rescue Services

Undertaking various full time & retained roles through from firefighter to watch commander within civil & military aviation and local authority fire & rescue services. Responsibilities included training and development of firefighters in standard and specialist roles in aviation rescue & firefighting, marine search & rescue and emergency medical response. Involved in the inaugural 'marine incident response group to deal with fire & rescue incidents on vessels at sea.
