Profile bio

About Richard Da Costa

I’m a filmmaker, storyteller, and collaborator at heart, driven by the excitement of learning, creating, and pushing boundaries. For over 30 years, I’ve been immersed in the world of storytelling. In 2011, I founded Floating Harbour Films on a Dutch Barge in the heart of Bristol, where we craft films that challenge the status quo and inspire action. Our projects span feature documentaries (like Last Breath, BBC/Netflix), commercials, and creative content that create real impact. I’m particularly proud of our work in climate change, decarbonisation, and sustainability - areas where storytelling can make a tangible difference. Before Floating Harbour, I spent 15 years as an actor, director, and writer across TV, radio, and theatre. This experience gave me a deep understanding of storytelling and performance, which has proved invaluable in shaping me into the filmmaker I am today. I’ve worked for major broadcasters such as the BBC, ITV, and Sky Movies, and appeared on BBC Radio 2, 3, 4, and 5, including The Archers. Fun fact: in 2008, I lived with pigs for a BBC Three documentary.I’m passionate about authentic performances, whatever the format, and one of my most developed skills is getting the best out of people in front of the camera. Whether I’m working with grassroots organisations or large commercial clients, my goal is always the same: to tell stories that matter and leave a lasting impact.Over the years, I’ve discovered my inner geek, developing technical expertise across all aspects of production. I’ve worked in nearly every industry and can quickly absorb and understand new information at a deep level. I’m capable of working at a very senior level and have interviewed people from all walks of life. From convicted criminals to Cabinet Ministers, from David Attenborough to Hollywood superstars—I’m never more at home than when getting to the heart of a story with a camera running.I thrive on collaboration and love working with people who bring fresh ideas and energy to the table. I’m particularly interested in great ideas about stories worth telling. If you have one - get in touch, and let’s create something remarkable.

Listed skills include Film, Film Production, Television, Commercials, and 25 others.
