Oliver Wyman (Previously Mercer Management Consulting - A Customer-Driven Growth Strategy Firm Sep 1996 - Dec 2003

Experience developing growth strategies in a variety of industries using an approach characterized by: Customer-driven assessment of opportunities and threats, rigorous evaluation of economics and a strong understanding of what is required to actually implement the strategy. Sample projects include:• Growth strategy: A Fortune 150 manufacturer faced stagnant growth in its ongoing battle against a dominant competitor. Worked with executives to identify and interview leading customer groups, understand channel dynamics, develop first integrated view of market size and profitability (including potential markets 6-7 times the size of their core business), assess positioning vs. major competitor, and develop and implement new distribution strategy to access target customers in a uniquely differentiated way. Achieved revenues of over $200MM in first two years of operations. • Customer profitability: A leading consumer finance company had no clear view of customer profitability or priorities to guide decision-making while merging two sets of operations. Worked with management to build an integrated customer database including information on customer preferences and profitability (~10% of customers accounted for almost half of profitability),, and used results to guide decision-making (e.g., branch consolidation). Achieved ~$50MM in annual savings from branch closings with less than ½ expected attrition of most valuable customers. Database also later used to guide direct mail campaigns.• Customer research: For a Fortune 50 financial services company, developed a market entry strategy to expand investment product presence in Europe. Work included needs-based customer segmentation, Strategic Choice Analysis, and value proposition development. Strategy targeted affluent individuals in three customer segments, with execution tailored to reflect country differences.
