Data and Storytelling.There is little more empowering than taking an ocean of data and massaging it into a report; every row and column translating into pareto charts, heat maps, pivot tables, scatter plots, and more. There are boundless ways in which we express data and tell a story, and the framing of these stories can lead to action and more questions. The process of harnessing data, of seeing what it has to share, has quickly grown into a rewarding passion and career for me.My story started in science and mathematics. Always interested in complicated things, and the how and why of things, I took quickly to STEM subjects. This natural inclination saw me through university and into a masters program. But as I advanced through my education, it became abundantly clear that my interests skewed heavily towards computer technology and away from laboratory research.Concluding my masters in chemistry, I chose to pursue a different line of work. Soon, I was in a data center, flooded daily with fresh information gained from our crews on the field. Here, I began exploring data analysis, GIS, software development, and finally data analytics & reporting. This latest discovery fit like a glove. I could creatively explore different visualization methods while delving into all that data had to offer.The rest is history. I've since developed a number of skills including the use of major BI Visualization software (Tableau and Power BI), SQL, GIT, a smorgasbord of in-house applications, Agile, etc. These skills have found their use in everything from tackling the opioid crisis, to empowering quality efforts in industry, to informing suppliers with performance updates, to offering a range of managerial and executive reporting, and finally to automating and improving on the minutia of everyday work. Always seeking another angle to the story, I look forward to seeing what our data has to share with us next!
