Topics include the impact of risk on corporate decision making, the functioning of insurance markets, microinsurance, and the role of rating agencies in the economy. I have more than 40 publications in books, academic and policy journals, and in media. I have received several research awards including the Robert I. Mehr Award for the article judged to have the greatest impact 10 years after publication twice (in 2008 and 2009), the Robert C. Witt Research Award (1998), the ARIA/CAS Best Paper Award three times (1998, 1999, and 2006), and the James S. Kemper Best Paper Award (2003) among others. In 2006 I was presented the Distinguished Alumni Award by the S.S. Huebner Foundation.

During my tenure the department's faculty grew by 20 percent; the number of students majoring in the academic programs grew by 70 percent; the department added two new endowed positions and one new research center (the Center for the Economic Analysis of Risk); and the department's endowed assets grew from $8 million to $15 million.
