Partner at AmLaw 200 firm headquartered in Los Angeles, co-resident in LA and Chicago offices. From 2016-2021, Richard led the consumer financial services practice, growing it substantially in size and achieving national peer rankings.

While at Buckley (which is now merged into Orrick), Richard was co-resident in the Los Angeles and Chicago offices, and both opened and grew the firm's Midwest outpost. Richard represented several of the largest consumer lenders in the United States in defense of consumer class actions, and led the trial team in defense of two of the nation's largest banks in "bet the company" B2B litigation arising out of the sale of what were alleged to be defectively underwritten mortgage loans into the secondary market.

During his Dykema years, Richard grew a small consumer financial services practice to over 75 lawyers, helped build out the firm's offices in three other cities (LA, Dallas and DC), and served in various other senior management functions. In 2010-11, Richard represented two of the largest national banks in defense of State AG matters in connection with the "subprime meltdown," negotiated directly with State AG's in several states, and led large teams in resolving thousands of consumer foreclosure-related suits.
