Led "Concurrent Engineering" and "DFM" (Design for Manufacturability) efforts on a new family of digitizing oscilloscopes. Invented and implemented new methods and processes related to CRT manufacturing.I was fortunate enough to meet both Dave Packard and Bill Hewlett during my tenure. I strive to emulate their management philosophy to this day.IBM - Charlotte, NCBack when IBM still developed hardware, I worked on the design of printers. One project, the ProPrinter, was designed exclusively for robotic assembly, pioneered the field of "DFA" (Design for Assembly), and became the basis of spinoff called "Lexmark" . Several of my inventions were published.

Vice President Of Engineering/Director Of EngineeingToshiba America 2003 - 2018Lebanon, TnOriginally hired to build a US local design engineering team, I was eventually given autonomous control over our entire engineering organization. Starting with Mechanical Design we built our culture of taking the best from both Japanese practices and American-style development. Localizing the mechanical design of televisions was fascinating, as it required gaining expertise in all types of materials and processes from metal stampings, molded rubber, die-cast and extruded aluminum, glass, cloth, and wood furniture, along with both small and large injection molded plastic parts. It also involved managing a $10M tooling budget along with developing vendors to produce those parts in the US I successfully grew our influence until virtually all North American products were designed locally. We eventually became Toshiba's global development center for rear-projection television (including CRT, LCOS, and DLP). Our products were on time and under budget. Six Sigma methodologies were adopted as I served the role of "champion" for DMAIC and "black belt" for DFSS (Design For Six Sigma). Assumed lead for all local engineering activity, including specs, compliance, owners manuals, IT, as well as providing support to manufacturing, QA, and purchasing organizations in our local factory as well as our factory in Juarez, Mexico. After Toshiba closed their US TV manufacturing facility, I joined forces with Toshiba America Information Systems to form a standalone engineering operation in Nashville known as the Visual Products Development Center (VPDC). My team of mechanical, electrical, software, and QA engineers together with specs and compliance teams continued to work on digital signage and global LCD TV development. Occasionally, we were also consulted by our partners in the PC organization to solve design problems with laptop and tablet computers.
