Richard Lee is an Analyst at Treliant. He is a highly motivated and experienced financial investigator with a passion for detecting financial crime. At Treliant, Richard brings his BSA/AML expertise to bear in helping financial institutions comply with regulatory requirements and prevent financial crime.Richard's career began at the Massachusetts Office of the Inspector General as an Assistant Investigator. Here, he developed his investigative skills by addressing issues such as predatory sales and embezzlement, adhering to the mission of preventing the fraud, waste, and abuse of Massachusetts public funds. His dedication to service, combined with his perfect physical fitness test scores, led him to pursue a role in the US Marine Corps Officer Candidate School. Unfortunately, his first attempt in 2020 ended in disqualification via high school injury, and his second was cut short due to contracting COVID-19, leading him to return to the Massachusetts Inspector General’s Office in 2021. Back at the IGO, Richard specialized his craft, helping to close a large time fraud case for the Division of State Police Oversight.Subsequently in February 2022, Richard shifted his career to the private sector joining NorthOne, a small business banking startup, as an AML/KYC Associate. His initial role involved processing over 5,500 applications and deciding on their approval, rejection, or escalation. His high-quality work quickly earned him a promotion to transaction monitoring and wire reviews, where he investigated over 2,500 alerts and achieved the highest quality assurance score in the Trust and Safety group. He went on to co-lead the Fraud & Unauthorized Use Transaction Monitoring and Onboarding programs, conducting client due diligence which included screening for Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctions and politically exposed persons.Richard holds a BA from Boston College and has furthered his expertise with a fintech certificate from the Wharton School. He is also certified as a Know Your Customer Associate (CKYCA), a Certified AML FinTech Compliance Associate (CAFCA), and a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS). Additionally, Richard is bilingual, fluent in both English and Spanish.In his free time, Richard is a sports fanatic, creating and leveraging statistical expected wins models to find an edge in the sports gambling market. Consequently, you will most likely find him watching a sporting event, attending a sporting event (especially in the Fall), or at a boxing gym.
