Current work includes project management of construction documents for the renovation and conversion of Yaquina Hall - an abandoned historic building on the Oregon State Hospital Campus in Salem - into a residential facility with 50 apartments for mentally disabled people. The U-shaped building wrapping itself around a large, unused courtyard has offered the opportunity to create an Outdoor Terrace (designed by Gabriel) for the residents.

Another exciting project may be the Rotary Centennial Stage, planned for an existing amphitheater in the Salem Riverfront Park, and subject to an architectural competition organized by the Rotary Club of Salem. AC+Co has submitted an entry designed by Gabriel, and shown below. The requirements called for a unique, iconic design reflective of the nearby Minto Island bridge, children's carousel and Rotary Pavilion. Additionally, while providing a facility to support and enhance performance, and to adapt to a variety of other functions, the design was not to impede the view... a tall order. Constructed of suspended steel frames and tinted, reflective glass, our concept can be seen as two flowers making a place for performance - lending a bit of magic to each performance, and making its own exuberant contribution to the spirit of the Park. Among the many features included would be a roll-down screen that could be used as a backdrop or projection screen, and when not in use would be hidden above to allow a view through the "portal" to the distant scene.

Rotary Centennial Stage, Salem, Oregonwith AC+Co Architecture | Community - UPDATEOn July 25 the Salem Rotary Club held a public forum for this project. Well-attended, the forum produced many questions and comments, to which the competing architects were asked to respond both at the forum and during the following weeks. Based on the information gained, our team made several revisions, including among others, (1) moving the support spaces to the north, thereby revealing to the audience a dramatic view of the Minto Island Bridge, (2) reworking the stage into a more organic form, allowing easy access to the audience and providing a special stage extension for solo work and recognition of the contribution of Salem Rotary, (3) adding an ADA ramp for wheelchair access, and (4) making the glass 50% reflective, to provide the performers better protection from the mid-day and afternoon sun, and to give a jewel-like sparkle when viewed from a both near and far.Sept 10, 2017 - The competing designs are currently being reviewed. The winning design is scheduled to be announced later this month.
