I've spent many enjoyable years working with some of the best people in the global automotive technology industry, supplemented by fascinating dives into luxury and high-performance cars, defence, aviation, trucks and off-highway. My experience includes leading global technical and corporate communications, media relations, marketing strategy, crisis communications, Government Relations, M&A and Investor Relations for companies of all sizes, from global Tier 1s to innovation start-ups. Now that Market Engineering (which I founded in 1990 and developed to be the European leader in communications for vehicle technology businesses) has been sold, I am focussing on my consulting and Non Executive Director activities with additional capability provided by former colleagues worldwide.My combination of strategic thinking, technical education and post-grad marketing delivers something unusual that many companies find attractive. I've worked at the highest levels to identify how changes in positioning and messaging can support business growth and turn latent value into tangible value for investors, I’ve positioned a logistics service provider to maintain premium pricing, helped open and close factories, introduced clients to senior ministers, arranged Government funding and launched new automotive technologies worldwide. I've been delighted to work with McKinsey (apparently I think like a 'unifier CMO'), Ferrari (at CTO level) and Porsche on technology positioning, Delphi (a client for 24 years) on autonomous driving and electrification, the Automotive Council’s Technology Roadmap, Vulcan to the Sky Trust to keep XH558 flying, various battery and AI innovators and with Alpina BMW, leading to impressive business improvement. Recently, I've become close to the vehicle electrification roadmap.In 2019, Ford's CTO asked me to join the board of the automotive industry's global engineering federation FISITA, quickly rising to Dep Chair then Chair. 2023 was the most successful year in the organisation's 70+ year history. For many years I was a judge for the Guild of Motoring Writers Award for Technology Journalism and for Autocar's Next Generation (technology) Award. My IR work has won an Investor Relations Society Award for the most improved annual report, and I have been elected a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing in recognition of my application of strategic marketing analysis in the automotive technology sector.Outside work, I enjoy music, architecture, gardening and spend too long browsing eBay for strange industrial antiques and ancient Porsches.
