About Richard S. Granat

I have been involved in developing innovative legal service delivery systems for over 35 years, with a focus on the intersection of information technology and law practice and with the goal of providing more accessible, transparent, and affordable legal services.My goal is to enable a legal industry that is less dominated by attorneys and law firms and driven more by client needs and interests and which offer legal solutions that people can afford. Personally I am oriented towards approaches that prevent litigation and minimize risk. The United Kingdom has deregulated the legal profession with the idea of making the legal profession more responsive to the needs of the average consumer. I would like to see these kinds of reforms instituted in the United States.On the other hand, solos and small law firms have an immense contribution to make in providing access to the legal system at an affordable fee by adopting Internet technologies that can result in lower cost legal services that still yield a decent profit margin.I have recently launched a new blog for lawyers and others interested in creating law products at : www.lawproductmakers.com.Specialties: "pro se" representation, expert systems and the law, "unbundled" legal services, the use of Internet technology to increase law firm productivity, ethical issues in the marketing and delivery of legal services over the Internet, regulation of legal information web sites, and virtual lawyering.I serve on the Board of Advisors of four early stage start-up companies in the legal industry.
