Managing strategic, cross-company initiatives improving and enhancing TomTom Maps and real-time Services.

Heading a team of product managers and engineers (located in Germany and Poland) focusing on the creation of products for non-automotive clients. Examples of products: Traffic Statistics, Origin-Destination matrices, real-time and historical Traffic and community input applications

From September 2016 onward I am focusing on improving and extending our products and business in the US. For this reason I have relocated to the USA and working from our San Jose office, working closely with our customers in the USA.

Following a reorganization within the company grouping all service units (combining Speedcams, Traffic and other services) I took on the job of Program Director responsible for all B2B, Consumer and Automotive projects in the Traffic and Travel Unit. In this role I have been responsible for the largest projects myself as well as managing a team of project managers. During this period I have also been responsible for the setup of the Traffic service in China. I have setup all systems locally in China and closed a joint venture agreement with our Chinese partner.

Leading the unit, responsible for delivery of the global speed camera product to all TomTom customers(B2C/B2B/B2G). I have been responsible for maintaining the current system as well as developing a new system using an advanced data fusion methodology. The development teams are located in the US, Netherlands, Germany and Poland. Daily operations of the system is being executed by a geographically spread moderation team with local knowledge. During this period a number of patents have been granted. The unit had a profit/loss responsibility where the profitability has grown significantly during this period.

Starting the project department in 2006, being responsible for delivery of the first real-time services on TomTom (connected) navigation devices making use of an embedded SIM card in the devices. This included the (agile) software development for the back office systems and managing 3rd parties being mobile operators and 3rd parties delivering content.This project organization unit has grown to a total number of 10 (sr.) project managers, all being responsible for an average of 3 projects. As manager projects I have been responsible for the delivery of the projects (navigation devices, mobile phones, automotive, web and e-commerce) and alignment on priority setting with the business units as well as managing the project management team.

During the first 4 years I have successfully managed the project department (approximately 10 project/program managers) of one of the Dutch ministries with about 6000 employees. During this period one of the main projects was the transition to a server based infrastructure (Citrix).The last 2 years I have been acting as bid manager for multiple projects (won multiple projects among a major project to reduce the costs for the department of justice, 16.000 employees). The last period I was project manager for a traffic system based on locations of mobile phones (deployed with Telecom Italia in Rome and Milan).

During the first 1,5 year I have been managing multiple large scale telephony and data network projects. After these projects I have been responsible for the delivery of a nationwide Mobile network for the Dutch railways in a joint venture between Siemens and KPN (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSM-R). As this GSM-R system is specififcally designed for safety applications there has been a strong emphasis on availability and security during the project. Next to the design, procurement and installation of the hardware equipment it included the procurement and/or agreements required to install the GSM base station antennas. The system has currently nationwide coverage and is in use by Dutch railways

During operational roles on board of Dutch frigates responsible for all Command and Control systems (radar, sonar, weapon systems, communications and combat management systems) As a project officer during non-operational roles I have been responsible for multiple cross-functional projects (hull mounted sonar equipment, sonar test equipment for submarines, Land Based test-site for new frigates etc.) involving hardware and software development and managing multiple suppliers, among them naval departments, research institutes and commercial suppliers.
