CES focus on providing engineering services (EE/ME/SW/Sys/..) from complete vehicle feature requirements definition and electrical architecture creation (including FSM, Cyber, Regulatory etc.) through to the integration and/or adaption existing Continental AG (or third party) technologies into vehicles - whist also offering the development of bespoke solutions across all electrical domains.CES also provides troubleshooting services when OEMs or Tier1/2s have projects go 'off-track' in terms of meeting fundamental requirements or automotive standards for robustness - electronics / mechanics / controls / system design / motor design / HV product design.CES is relatively unique as a service provider in that it has its own prototype facilities (HV Motor/Inverter/DCDC/electronics/..) and series manufacturing plants. Addressed GM global market engine variant strategy shifts via negotiating production plant balancing/investments and claims for the fuel injector/pump business. Focussed on customer relationship development to be a responsive supplier of first choice.

Technical and commercial lead for bespoke complex technology new business acquisitions valued up to approximately $1Bn. Assumed role of Senior Program Manager during acquisition phase to lead concept, cost, and price strategy and development with Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Industrial Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, Target Costing, Business Controlling, Sales & Marketing and Product Line / Business Unit Leadership. Single point of contact with customer for advanced technology collaboration.

Accountable internally and to GM Powertrain for the technical and commercial leadership, planning, execution, design, validation, and delivery of the E39A Powertrain Control System permitting reduced fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions primarily due to the application of High Pressure Gasoline Direct Injection, Variable Valve Timing and Lift, and Cylinder Deactivation technology.

Responsible to Chrysler (and leading a cross disiplined team internally) for the development of two variants of the GPEC1 Powertrain Controller using a new business model of split OEM/Tier1 co-development. Licenced IP that enabled new features to be brought to market (VVT/Knock) and optimized end-customer attribute features (torque delivery/idle quality/..)

Led team of 20 System Integration/Function Development/Software and Calibration Engineers for the launch of a turn key Cadillac V8 Engine Management System in XLR/SRX/STS. Recoverd program and customer trust. Resolved various CARB non-compliances and key driver comfort feature refinements.

Developed, tested and released functions for GM's Premium V8 Engine Management System including OBDII Diagnostics, Error Manager, Diagnostic Sevices ISO 15031-5 / J1979, GM's Services Modes and other engine functions.

Integrated and developed all aspects of the Engine Mangement System into Rover's new 'Mini' R50/R53. A fantastic time from starting the first trolley based engine, to engine dyno calibration, vehicle calibration, hot and cold environmental test trips and defining end of line vehicle test at Longbridge - before BMW moved it to Oxford.. I also tranfered OBDII function know-how to Rover for use in their in-house MEMS engine manement system for K-Series engine.

An exciting role being on the forefront of simulating/developing/validating and introducing CAN to the market with the AJ26/XK8/XJ Powertrain enabling smoother shifting gears and improved traction control amongst many other HMI and diagnostic capabilities. Also saw the introduction of the first electronic throttles (with a mechanical backup in the first step). Great to work with the ABS/Cluster/Transmission and other teams on the network - and to troubleshoot every prototype vehicle build... Also worked on misfire and other OBDII functions.

Part of the 1989 cohort of Jaguar Sponsored Students and Graduates - we were greeted by Sir John Egan on the Monday - and bought by Ford by Friday. A great time learning the ropes the traditional way through placements in all of the plants and in aspects of Engineering, Manufacturing and Business -ending up in the Engine Management Systems department in the Electrical Engineering Department.
