Liopa develop Visual Speech Recognition (VSR) technology. By analysing discrete lip movements, we can decipher speech from a video of the subject speaking. Our VSR technology is the product of over 50 man-years of research and utilises a combination of highly innovative techniques to track & extract speaker lip movements and an AI-Engine that combines a number of state-of-the-art modelling techniques and Deep Neural Networks to derive the words spoken by the subject.

Reporting to the US based head of Intel Network Products and Services this position was primarily focus on creating and implementing a new product strategy and go-to-market approach for the AePONA products which added value to Intel’s overall future direction. This strategy entailed leveraging components of the existing AePONA telecoms product (The API Monetisation Platform or AMP) to create an new enterprise software product aimed at Service Creation for the Internet of Things (IoT) market

Reporting to the US based CEO the main objective of this position was to set and maintain the company product and technology strategy. During this time I rationalized the company’s product portfolio down to two core products, set out clear product roadmaps, revised the product pricing and the “Go to Market” strategy. This position also involved board, funding and acquisition related activities.

Reporting to the CEO of Mobile Cohesion this position included Product, Financial, Human Resources, IT and Legal activities. Product responsibilities included product definition (leading the Product Management team), implementation (managing the software development and test teams), marketing and field operations activities (installation, commissioning, documentation, customization and 24x7 support).

This position was responsible for setting up and running the Mobile Carrier Software business unit within Phone.com. The group numbered approximately 150 people and spanned Engineering, Technical Product Management, Product Management and Product Marketing. As GVP of this group, primary responsibility was P&L Management. The Unit generated revenues of $200m in 2001 with a gross margin in excess of 85%.

This was a Executive Director position with specific responsibility for building shareholder value by creating and implementing a strategy to take the company from software outsource services to product development. This was achieved by implementing an innovation process centred around creation of a “Technologies” function. This resulted in a number of R&D projects being set up, the most successful of which was the “Binnian” WAP Gateway. Responsibilities included technical strategy, leading the development team, instigating a full product development organization and securing initial customers for Binnian. The product development organization was established at the start of 1998 and grew to 120 people at the time the company was successfully acquired by Phone.com in 1999.

This was an undergraduate placement year position working in defence research with the Royal Signals. The work undertaken during this period focussed on the development of a new parallel processing computer and accompanying software for military field applications such as 3D map data visualisation.
