About Richard Levenson, Md, Fcap
I am currently Professor in the Dept. of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UC Davis, and Fellow, SPIE, and co-Founder of Histolix, Inc. Research activities include development of mass-tag-based multiplexed ion-beam imaging for up to 100-plex immunohistochemistry (Nat Med, 2014); artificial intelligence for image analysis, informatics (led a graduate-level health-informatics course); cancer immunotherapy; DUET H&E- slide scanning for collagen and other macromolecule detection, and real-time, slide-free ex-vivo tissue microscopy. Co-founded Histolix, Inc., with a goal of bringing these last two capabilities to market. See:Nature Biomedical Engineering: http://rdcu.be/AjpWBiomedical Optics Express: https://doi.org/10.1364/BOE.10.006516A recent project evaluating the capabilities of pigeons to detect breast cancer on pathology and radiology images was published in PLoS ONE and has received more attention than any of my more mainstream efforts.Prior to coming to UCD, I served as VP for Research at Cambridge Research and Instrumentation (CRI, then part of PerkinElmer, now Akoya Biosciences) where I led development efforts on total internal reflection microscopy, small-animal imaging, whole-slide scanning and segmentation software, multispectral imaging, and combined multispectral and birefringence imaging systems. I then consulted in a variety of areas, including brain cooling technology for treatment of cardiac arrest, optical measurement of deep-brain temperature and coagulometry, intra-operative surgical guidance, and digital pathology.
