Richard is a Non-Executive Director for Badminton Europe, part of the Badminton World Federation. Currently Richard Chairs the High-Performance Commission and oversees the European World Training Centre in Denmark with players focused on the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. Previously, Richard Chaired of the Communications and Marketing Committee overseeing Marketing and Communication strategies including broadcast, digital, partners agreements and hosting fees in relation to major Continental Championships.

Squash Australia has been transformed over the past six years thanks to Richards's leadership. He has increased turnover by 121%, and reserves by 300% in the period. This was done by improving the brand value through media engagement, great work in the digital space, activating a facility franchise model to increase the value of the return of investments in Squash facilities, and significantly increasing grants for the organisation from multiple sources.Social participation rates / full membership have increased approx. 41% over the past four years and this has been helped by the successful activation of excellent strategy and the development of new engagement programmes and the opening of a new National Squash Centre on the Gold Coast in 2018.He is highly motivated, with impressive energy and drives for excellence. An accredited Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Director, Richard has demonstrated an extensive track record of delivering nation-wide results in sport, the not-for-profit sector, and commercial ventures. Richard has demonstrated the ability to develop a performance culture, creating teams that know they are valued, yet understand their individual accountabilities. This is helped by his performance background and his unique cache of international and domestic experience across all levels to CEO, and Non-Executive Board Director. He excels at positioning sport with government, stakeholders, sponsors, and participants and has a particular interest in governance, leadership, organisational development, and advocacy for equality.

Richard was a Non-Executive Director for the British Olympians a not-for-profit organisation focused on promoting the Olympian values for the good of society. During the three years, Richard helped the organisation by focusing on improving their digital footprint and fundraising.

Through Richard’s transformational leadership, Badminton Ireland moved from a struggling red rated sport with the Department of Sport, to a green-rated National Sports Federation.Finances were turned around, from a pending insolvency to a surplus of >€500k, in less than 4 years. New income generation via new sponsorship deals, sports council grant funding increases and further income diversification concepts such an online eShop, National Academy, and revamped coach accreditation system all accounted for the commercial success.The performance programme received considerable financial increase from government after the development of an excellent performance programme and European medals. Linked to his was the development of a new €12 million new state of the art National Badminton centre in partnership with Sport Ireland which created a home for the performance programme and enabled Ireland to host major events.Participation rates were increased by 20% thanks to digital engagement and improvements to the value of membership by building what the sport provided around badminton participants (members). Ireland piloted the IOC recognised best in class Shuttle Time school product and the new global Coach Accreditation in partnership with the BWF, another marker in the confidence of stakeholders in the delivery Ireland could provide.As outlined above governance was improved from red to green with the Department of Sport thanks to improved governance, transparency and effective delivery of an excellent strategy.Most importantly, the brand value of badminton in Ireland drastically increased over the four years thanks to the success highlighted above and the engagement with he media through live steaming with AETV, televised production with TG4 and a major digital presence through www.BadmintonIreland.tv. What makes the transformation even more remarkable is it was achieved on the back of the Great Financial Crisis in which Ireland was significantly affected.

As Digital Account Director for Gravit-e, a boutique digital consultancy part of the K3 Group, Richard managed the digital and eCommerce functions for Blue Chip and iconic fashion companies.Annual targets for business development were always met and the eCommerce Academy was successfully started with K3 clients.Key responsibilities ranged from developing and enhancing Executive level relationships to developing digital strategy, improving search engine optimisation, building and integrating websites to back end functionality and full eCommerce support.Customers included Ruby and Ed, Sunspel, and Neals Yard Remedies to name a few.

Richard was the British number one men's singles players for over a decade reaching a career-high world ranking of world number 6. Richard reached the last 16 of both the Sydney 2000 and Athens Olympic Games and achieved silver and bronze medals at the European Championships and Commonwealth Games.
