Engaged as a Project Engineer with technical and management responsibilities across a number of projects of varied scale and complexity, particularly in the mining and petrochemical sectors. The current suite of projects includes those where Ultraspin are the OEM (~$200k projects), as well as subcontracting to lead contractors where we are suppliers of the core technology (~$10M total project value). The requirements of this position included:• Project Management – responsibility for the control of cost, schedule and quality for a range of projects, liaising with stakeholders both locally, interstate and internationally. While nominally employed as a Chemical Engineer, circumstances necessitated involvement in a range of areas. Irish) contractors and our client, managing the site workforce, maintaining appropriate feedstock, fuel, and storage levels, and providing feedback to head office.• Project Management - responsibility for the management of various re-engineering and modification works was distributed amongst the engineering group, and I was involved both as manager and team member. • Process Engineering - during trials/operations I was responsible for managing successful plant operation as well as the training of the local operators.• Design Engineering - as part of the engineering team I was involved in design work for the re-engineering of the existing plant, as well as working on the broader re-design work for subsequent plants including mass and energy balances. This also consisted of design, sizing and procuring of equipment and instrumentation.• Miscellaneous - satisfying the requirements of CE Compliance and Hazardous Area regulations, participation in HAZOPs, organising transcontinental transportation of Dangerous Good and other process instrumentation and equipment, developing and presenting training programs for plant operators and technicians, development of a Plant Operations Manual.

While the Australian Pulp & Paper Institute is based at Monash University, there was extensive collaboration with industry during my involvement in the investigation of fundamental paper physics, the Kraft pulping process, and the de-inking of newsprint as part of the recycling process. Experience was gained in:• Experimental Design/Analysis - the development of robust experimental methods and procedures to optimise the results achieved with respect to the time and money expended.• Design - I designed and managed fabrication of a pilot scale flotation deinking rig to satisfy the requirements of of both my, and subsequent, experimental programs.• Laboratory operations - I conducted a range of laboratory work, including confocal scanning microscopy, UV absorption analysis, physical property analysis and nitrogen absorption analysis.
