The program downloads a large JSON payload from the Carleton server when the application is run the first time. The majority of the information is static or changes only once a year. There is a feature where the app will re-download the JSON every 90 days or so. In addition to the JSON data the program reads additional APIs for features including photo galleries and student blogs. Another feature of the app is a campus map which, if the user is on campus, tracks the users location on campus. The map included with the application is a custom map that was created by the university and converted to an Android compatible format. There are three zoom levels of the map and the zooming and scrolling of the map is all done via Google Maps – the custom map is simply an overlay on Google Maps. Foundation Center Mobilehttp://goo.gl/44KFQ8Foundation Center is an organization which provides a database of information regarding grants available around the country. Access to the data is via subscription. The mobile app replicates the functionality of the Foundation Center website and includes account / subscription validation. The data provided to the user is read via JSON and queries are made to the database via the Foundation Center API using simple HTTP POSTs.Bank Trackerhttp://goo.gl/iHCHk2Bank Track is a mobile companion to the website MyBankTracker.com. The application reads the news feed in JSON via the Bank Tracker API.
