Acts as the Treasurer to the Board of YoTM, a Non-Governmental Organization, registered in and operating in Kenya. YoTM empowers persons with epilepsy and ensures equal participation in society through lobby and awareness creation in partnership with stakeholders. As the Treasurer, I provide oversight to ensure institutional compliance with statutory requirements, prudent management of finances, maintenance of internal financial systems, guiding the preparation of annual budgets, and ensuring proper reporting, among other responsibilities.

I’m a Co-Founder of Jalada Africa Trust, a Pan-African collective and a publishing outfit committed to capturing the African experience through multiple modes of storytelling, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, spoken word, dance, and other forms of creative expression.As the Program Manager, I was responsible for day-to-day planning and coordination of projects, while proactively monitoring costs against deliverables.Among other projects, I developed the grant proposal and led the fundraising efforts for the Jalada Mobile Literary & Arts Festival. I coordinated the execution of the festival which was showcased in 12 cities/towns in 5 countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Democratic Republic of Congo) in March 2017. I have managed social media platforms for Jalada Africa, Facebook Page and Twitter handle, since the founding of Jalada Africa Trust in 2013.

I was responsible for expanding and diversifying the institutional donor portfolio, working proactively with senior management to identify and win appropriate grant opportunities to support quality service delivery.Researched and scoped for new funders; created and maintained up-to-date funders’ databases; prepared concept notes and proposals; made grant applications; and established communication channels with both prospective and current funders, and submitted monthly reports to senior management team.Developed funding concepts and proposals for resource mobilization for institutional and funding. The core areas included Human Rights and LGBTI, HIV/AIDS among LGBTI, Human Rights Advocacy, Women Empowerment, Gender Based Violence/Intimate Partner Violence, Media Content Production, and (Im)migration among others. The targeted donors were Foreign Embassies, Gates Foundation, Heinrich Böll Stiftung, HIVOS, OSISA, International Media Women Fund, and Ford Foundation among others.

I was responsible for the development and preparation of survey instruments, identifying suitable techniques for the collection and analysis of data, contributing to team decisions about research directions, ensuring the validity and reliability of data at all times, data coding, data entry, data transcription, and data analysis, report writing and presentation, and research findings dissemination.I coordinated the social media dissemination of research findings for the Jipeshughuli Program and Audit of Solid Waste Management in Nairobi County. Jipeshughuli is a Social Transformation Program which sought to promote transparency, accountability and public participation in the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF), Women Enterprise Fund (WEF), Uwezo Fund and the Access to Government Procurement (AGPO). The dissemination exercise was implemented in collaboration with PAWA254, Ghetto Radio, and Pamoja FM.

Regularly contributed contemporary analyses, on the Star Newspaper, as part of MaskaniConversations – an interactive online-to-offline initiative to facilitate public participation andpromote engagement on issues relevant to all Kenyans.

I consulted with Pambazuko Mashinani on a project “Toward Strengthening TB Diagnosis, Stigma Reduction, and Community Awareness in Korogocho: Data Collection, Analysis, and Presentation of the Quantitative Households Survey Baseline Study.” Responsibilities included data collection, data analysis, report writing and presentation.
