    Freescale Semiconductor 2003 - Oct 2010
Senior Software Engineer responsible for working on projects that include: • Architected the Object-Oriented MaskDesigner Database comprising the MDS-API.• Generated 30 million dollars in direct annual savings, by reducing New Product Introduction(NPI) cycle time from 4 weeks to 2 days.• Reduced the scrap rate of bad masks from 22% to <1% as a direct result of removing manual tasks from the mask preparation process.• Improved the competitive advantage of Freescale by Increasing productivity of the IC mask maker.• Authored majority of the MaskDesigner DB Classes with associated class accessor methods.• Designed and wrote all system level software, including communication and tracking, and views into the database states for the MaskDesigner system.• Provided the system level API for tool launch, process tracking, and communication between all other application software in the system.• Added Multi-Layer Reticle capability in MDS to reduce the Mask Cost for test vehicles.• Automated the tracking of Process Control patterns(PC’s) and integrating them into to the Design Flow. This included an ‘auto-merge’ capability and management of metadata, for used in the Stepper program to control their placement in the creation of the reticle.• Created software to support 1X masks needed for the IC Sensors product line.Project Leader/Developer for Precise/RTS/CIT 2006-2010• Managed the software that processes all ROM/Flash customer micro-code for Freescale. This required the technical oversight of Customer-Facing Web-Site, an Intranet Web-Site with MySQL database and all Apache CGI related programming and support.• Wrote Archive and Unarchive system for Device Setup files and prior Customer submissions.• Wrote Mask Order Entry system for interfacing with external mask shops.• Created a disaster recovery plan, secured backup hardware and built a redundant system to serve in case of an operational emergency.
  • Motorola Semiconductor
    Sr. Software Engineer
    Motorola Semiconductor 1988 - 2003
Senior Software Engineer with extensive experience in Process Automation, Systems Level Software Development, and Graphical User Interfaces. Proven track record in developing large software systems(MaskDesigner is in excess of 750K lines of code). Some accomplishments achieved during the period of employment:“Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff” Granted Nov. 1991“The Mask Automation Program MaskPrep” TradeSecret S-7630-11-91“File Based and Highly Available Hybrid Database” US Patent 5,418,945“Inner Network Auditing System” Defensive Publication #8863“User Configurable Framework XStuff” Defensive Publication #7927The creation of the "MaskPrep" IC mask automation system was deemed by the Motorola Patent committee to be of such a competitive advantage that the software was declared a 'Trade Secret' rather than patenting the software and divulging how this was done. The software • Generates 30 million dollars in direct annual savings, by reducing New Product Introduction(NPI) cycle time from 4 weeks to 2 days.• Reduced the scrap rate of bad masks from 22% to <1% as a direct result of removing manual tasks from the mask preparation process.Even though the software is over 20 years old and was replaced in 2001 with MaskDesigner, it is still in use for some 1X mask technologies. This is a testiment to it's continued impact to Freescale even in 2010!
  • Calma Inc.
    Software Engineer
    Calma Inc. Jan 1985 - Aug 1988
My first job out of collage was for Calma in San Jose California. Calma a was pioneer in the CAD computer software arena. The GDSII computer graphics layout format created by Calma is still in use today as a de-facto standard in the IC industry for exchanging of layout data. I was hired to work on a commercial Printed Circuit Board(PCB) application named T-Boards. It included schematic capture, Auto place and route, and all the CAM outputs. I was assigned to write the Pen Plotting application software. After 2 years, I was made a project leader over the CAM outputs including my software Pen Plotting, Photo Plotting, and NC Drill. I remained at Calma until the division was sold to Valid Logic in July of 1988 at which time I took a job in Tempe Arizona in the Motorola Semiconductor Product Sector - Central CAD Group 'Sector CAD' under the able management of Jeff LaVelle.
