  • University Of Delaware
    Graduate Researcher
University Of Delaware Jun 2014 - Jan 2017
    Newark, De, Us
Graduate Research Assistant in the Center for Carbon Free Power Integration (CCPI) at the University of Delaware (UD). On issues of offshore wind energy:1) Project Manager for "System Design Optimized for Large-Turbine Wind Farm Near Wilmington Canyon" (DE-EE0005484). The project objectives are to develop a cost-optimized, integrated system design of an offshore wind plant in order primarily to reduce the Cost of Energy (COE) and secondarily to shorten the deployment timeline of offshore wind power. Prepared submitted both internal and external reports assessing quarterly progress of project objectives. Management of external contractors across industries such as steel, ports, shipping, and electrical cable providers and compiled data on the cost of the turbine farm installation. Performed quantitative analysis of levelized cost of energy (LCOE) for the various simulated wind farms.2) Project Manager for "Mid-Atlantic Offshore Wind Interconnection and Transmission" (MAOWIT) (DE-EE0005366). Organized workshop attended by government, public, private, and academic entities to disseminate findings of project results and engage in cross-institutional dialogue on offshore wind interconnection and transmission. Prepared and edited final reports sent to the Department of Energy. On issues of electric vehicles: 1) Vehicle to Grid (V2G) project: CCPI at the University of Delaware is the pioneer of the field of V2G, which is a system in where plug-in electric vehicles communicate with the electric grid to sell demand response and other ancillary grid services by either returning electricity to the grid or increasing the vehicle's rate of charge through bidirectional charging. Analyzed electric vehicle user behavior utilizing quantitative methods in STATA to determine charging behavior, driving behavior.
  • University Of Maryland Baltimore County
Graduate Researcher - Wind Energy Workgroup
University Of Maryland Baltimore County Jan 2013 - Jun 2014
    Baltimore, Md, Us
Engaged in interdisciplinary development of a wind energy research center at UMBC, which combined efforts of faculty and graduate student researchers among Department of Economics, Department of Physics, and Department of Mechanical Engineering with support from the Office of Research. Duties included:1) Co-authoring of publications on economic topics relating to new technologies in offshore wind, including cost effectiveness of proposed new technologies and additional economic benefits possibly accrued from the adoption of the proposed new technologies. 2) Drafted and submitted Reducing Uncertainty in Maryland Offshore Wind Resource: Research at the Intersection of the Physic and Economics of Wind Energy, a near $1 million research grant proposal for the Maryland Higher Education Commission and Maryland Energy Administration's Maryland Offshore Wind Energy Research Challenge (MOWER). The proposal was not accepted for funding.
  • University Of Maryland Baltimore County
    Graduate Research And Teaching Assistant
University Of Maryland Baltimore County Jan 2013 - May 2013
    Baltimore, Md, Us
As graduate research assistant: - Performed academic research support for working paper "Is the Long Run Effects of Prenatal and Early Life Malnutrition Gender Neutral? A Case of the Great Chinese Famine" which looks at the economic impact of obesity gradient over age in historic China. Conducted literature review for relevant sources and summarized articles. Cleaned data for quantitative analysis. Calculated summary statistical data analysis. As graduate teaching assistant: - Independent instructor for 40 student lab session of ECON421: Introduction to Econometrics. This course focused on the fundamentals of regression methods applied to empirical analysis of economic phenomena, with topics including single-equation regression models with classical assumptions, special econometric techniques for non-classical regression models, and simultaneous equation models. Introduced students to concepts and practical use of STATA regression software. This section was only available to upper class undergraduates.
  • Princeton Energy Resources
    Researcher
Princeton Energy Resources May 2012 - Aug 2013
As research intern at PERI consulted on wide range of project dealing with economic, legal, environmental, educational, and policy concerns of offshore wind in the mid-Atlantic. Compiled final report Mid-Atlantic Wind - Overcoming the Challenges (DE-EE0000513). This project was jointly funded by Department of Energy and Maryland Department of Natural Resources in order to identify a number of minor challenges and barriers to the development of wind energy in the mid-Atlantic, namely in shallow, sheltered waters of bays and sounds, and provide recommendations to possible solutions or mitigation measures to overcome these barriers. Under project Workforce Training for the Rural Electric Power Sector (DE-OE0000440):- Compiled materials for introductory courses on rural wind and solar fundamentals and installation at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and minority serving institutions in rural Eastern Shore Maryland. Goals were to aid in establishing certificate programs locally to foster the development of a green workforce and spur local economic development from attraction of green industries to the region. - Design and development of Excel workbook utilized by regional rural land owners in determining possible cash flows derived from net metering of installed small-scale wind turbines on their respective property purchased through the Maryland Energy Administration WindSwept grant. Other duties includes grant proposal writing for National Renewable Energy Laboratory Region Resource Center for Wind, preparation of presentation materials for project supervisors for conferences and external meetings, and organization of workshop between industry experts and academics in the mid-Atlantic region in order to disseminate project results.
  • Ecore
    Housing Energy Usage Researcher
    Ecore Sep 2011 - Mar 2012
    Lancaster, Pa, Us
As Housing Energy Usage Intern designed a data set of residential home profiles in the District of Columbia, extracted from 240 home energy audits performed by employing entity using REM/Rate - Residential Energy Analysis and Rating Software with variables including housing type, vintage, area, foundation type, roof type and color, insulation levels (attic, basement, exterior walls, interior walls), Uo value of doors and windows, type of heating/cooling system, existence of energy efficient appliances, and monthly electricity usage. This data was analyzed with STATA, first to determine any patterns in characteristics for residential properties in the District of Columbia given vintage and housing type. Second, using hedonic price modeling, detect the existence of a green premium for non-LEED or other third party certification holding properties, using estimates derived from Zillow or other property value estimation datasets. Dataset was utilized for several undergraduate and graduate class projects over the following two-years in order to examine more nuance research questions.
