Following this, he remained at Loyola to earn a master of arts in developmental psychology. Dr. Richard Pines continued his training with a doctor of osteopathy at the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine, followed by a rotating osteopathic internship in conjunction with Lakeview Hospital in Milwaukee. Subsequently, he fulfilled the obligations of a pediatrics residency and a psychiatry residency with the Oregon Health & Science University and the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry, respectively. Dr. Richard Pines remained at the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry to complete his formal training with a fellowship in child psychiatry. In recognition of his clinical knowledge, Dr. Pines holds board certifications in general psychiatry and in child and adolescent psychiatry.
