I did first grade twice, once in Afrikaans, and then in English at a private Christian school where I excelled academically, but had some social quirks. By the age of 13, the principal of my school allowed me to pursue my interest in commerce and information technology after first break (09.30). My family relocated from Nelspruit to Pretoria when I was 15, and the same arrangement continued with my new school principal who allowed further graces; I rented an office from the school from where I operated my first business. I eventually completed my schooling at the age of 20 as my then younger girlfriend was set to complete school before me (by which time I had around 30 staff and was in process of concluding my first M&A deal).My investment career along with my active management participation ethos has taken me all over the world, and exposed me to many industry sectors. In 2015, I relocated to Mauritius with my wonderful wife Louise, and later we managed to invite both set of parents to come and live in paradise island, and Louise and I developed a Payments business as part of a then joint-venture deal which we later wholly acquired through a Management Buyout. Once we were settled in Mauritius, Louise and I sold up our remaining assets in South Africa and incorporated our investment holdings structure, VANPOT Holdings. I love reading, socialising, attempting to fish, and am trying to take up golf (which is proving to be my toughest challenge yet!).
