Senior Technical Architect / Qc Director
STR Partners is an award-winning architecture firm serving K-12 school districts in the northeastern Illinois region. STR ranks among the top architecture firms for 2023 by Building Design+Construction Media. In my role as Quality Control Director, I review all projects during the design and documentation phases for conformance with the appropriate building codes and local zoning ordinances. I am a firm wide resource for project specific zoning, code, planning, and technical design related matters. As an AIA certified education provider, I present lunch and learn seminars to the office on subjects related to current and typical office projects. My responsibilities include participation in the development of firm wide Quality Assurance standards and processes. In addition to my QC and QA responsibilities, I have prepared studies related to early-stage planning for proposed school facilities.
Senior Licensed Architect
Projects: Kazakhstan World Expo and Extell Tower (NYC mixed use super tall building now called Central Park Tower)
Visiting Professor
I taught 3rd year undergraduate architectural studios and a graduate housing design studio along with Professional Practice and Design Practice Management courses.
Visiting Assistant Professor
I taught 1st year environmental design through 4th year comprehensive design studios. Because all studios at Kansas State are manual through the 2nd year I was able to teach manual studios along with studios that utilized computer modeling and graphics. In addition to studio, I taught two graduate seminars: Multi-family Housing Types and a Survey of Contemporary Architectural Theory. In August 2010 I was an invited juror at DIS (Danish Institute for Study Abroad) in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Senior Project Architect
I was the Senior Project Architect for the Park Michigan Tower (high-rise mixed use condo) project in Chicago. In addition, I was the Project Designer for the Lindenhurst Village Green project for which PHP prepared several architectural and urban design schemes.
Associate - Senior Project Designer, Senior Project Architect
I worked primarily in the Corporate and K-12 studios as a Senior Project Designer and/or Senior Project Architect. I also worked on projects in the Higher Education and Healthcare studios. My first project at Owp/p was the Illinois RIA Science Center at Argonne National Labs. In the K-12 Studio I was the Senior Project Designer for the Stevenson High School Orchestra Room Addition. This project was awarded an AIA design award as part of a multi-part renovation at Stevenson that included the new orchestra room and a new student forum / cafeteria.
Project Designer, Project Architect
I was the Project Architect for an early version of the CCIL SRO (single room occupancy hotel) in Chicago.
Associate - Senior Project Designer, Senior Project Architect
I worked on projects in the K-12, Higher Ed, Corporate, and Healthcare studios while at Perkins + Will. I worked on the Oak Terrace Elementary School in Highwood, Illinois as a Senior Project Designer beginning with the programming phase and continuing through the construction administration phase as a Senior Project Architect. I was responsible for the day to day coordination of the architectural team and the outside consultants throughout the life of this project. This is the second project of my career where I was able to work on and coordinate every phase of a project from start to finish. The project was completed on time, on budget and with no architectural change orders.
Assistant Professor
I taught the fourth year, two quarter, comprehensive architectural design studio along with a third year architecture studio each year. I also taught lecture courses including an Introduction to Architecture course, History of Modern Architecture course, and an elective seminar on Chicago Multi-Unit Housing. In the spring of 1998, I led a study abroad studio in Florence, Italy.
Project Architect, Project Designer
I worked on a number of award winning designs as a Project Designer. On the Jin Mao project in Shanghai, China I was primarily responsible for the link atrium between the tower and retail podium. I was the Project Designer for the 63rd and Halsted Green Line CTA station in Chicago and a design team member for the State Street renovation project in Chicago. On the Lucky Goldstar project in Beijing, China I designed one of several proposed tower schemes.
Visiting Professor
I was one of three architects and planners, then working for the Chicago Park District, that were invited to lead a civic design studio in the Graduate Architecture Program at IIT. The projects for the studio were all located on Northerly Island which was still Miegs Field at that time. The first semester was spent designing a World’s Fair site master plan and the second semester was spent master planning and designing buildings for a proposed expanded museum campus.
Consulting Project Architect
While consulting full-time for the Park District I designed a new 20,000 sq. ft. Fieldhouse for Rainbow Beach Park on the Southside of Chicago. In addition, I prepared the drawings for two significant historic restoration projects: the Douglas Park Garden Hall and the Humboldt Park Receptory. I also prepared designs and construction documents for several historically significant ADA compliance renovations.
