"It was a privilege to be the 101st President of this great organization, now in its 247th year." A 2yr pro-bono leadership role, chairing the Board and Advisory Council and managing the CEO & full-time staff. Also, liaising with our Honorary President, the British Consul-General in New York, Danny Lopez & Antonia Romeo, and the Society's Royal Patron, his Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester, KG, GCVO.Richard was invited onto the board in 2008 and took up the challenge of engaging younger members with the charity through creating an attractive co-brand aimed at 'vibrant' British expats and their friends. In March 2011, 'GEORGE' was launched. Richard recruited a group of 'Ambassadors' across different industries who were well connected in the City to help build the profile. The concept was also well received and supported by the British Consulate. The same year Richard and the team launched the first 'British Bash!' attended by 200 people, to coincide with the Royal Wedding which raised $17,000. Three years later the event attracted 330 people, we honored rugby hero, Jonny Wilkinson and raised $80,000 (see video below). In 2016, we honored Olympic hero, Sir Steve Redgrave and raised over $100,000 (see video in summary section). In 2016 we honored England and British & Irish Lions Legend, Jeremy Guscott.Main sponsors have included Virgin Atlantic, Jaguar/Land Rover, Boots & Transferwise.The main fundraiser for the charity is the English Ball, a distinguished black tie affair which honors a prominent business figure. On April 30th 2015 we honored, Steve McGill, CBE, Group President of AON Plc, Geoffrey Bradfield (Internationally acclaimed Interior Designer) and James Goren. We raised a record breaking $570,000. See the video below.In 2016 we honored Sir Martin Sorrell, Dr Amanda Foreman & Consul-General, Danny Lopez. We smashed our previous records with 450 attendees at the Mandarin Oriental raising $1million net for the Society.
