The expedition began in Victoria, British Columbia on July 5, 2010 and ended September 4, 2010.I was the first HBCU Fellow to work with the communication team alongside scientists and engineers from IODP member nations to help achieve shipboard science objectives such as developing and implementing innovative ways to bring scientific ocean drilling to students and teachers and to the general public. Sailing aboard the JR and working alongside a diverse team of professionals provided a meaningful educational experience that was challenging, exciting, and showed me a wide range of opportunities in scientific ocean drilling.The Juan de Fuca expedition installed subseafloor observatories (CORKS) and included a course on marine geology and geophysics, with an emphasis on seafloor hydrogeology.
