Responsible for client relations, marketing, and service delivery for healthcare and education clients.Duties include position backfill, departmental operations, financial and fund management, organizational compliance, policy and procedure content development, pre and post award administration, writing and editing, reporting, contract management, personnel supervision, and training.

•Develop & write competitive grant proposals to federal & state agencies that result in extramural funding•Acquire, use, & maintain knowledge & understanding of the university faculty and staff areas of expertise for the successful attainment of external funding•Gather information through interviews and other means that will provide an understanding of the specifics of the project or program for which funding is sought as defined by the faculty or staff member responsible for conducting the project•Identify and distribute appropriate funding opportunities to all faculty members•Research identify and maintain information about key contacts at federal and state sponsors that match the interests of individual faculty and collaborative teams•Develop coordinate and deliver grant writing workshops for faculty members•Review edit and provide input on proposals writtenby faculty members•Research and assist in the development of contracts involving research activities•Develop and maintain contacts with federal funding sponsors and become a liaison with sponsors•Work with the office of Graduate Studies & Research staff & University Research & Creative Activities Committee to assist in the establishment of strategies to increase extramural research funding•Interpret data provided by Institutional Research for use in grant proposal development•Participate in institutional-level planning for grant program concept designs to address institutional, state, and federal critical issues•Work closely with the Director of Corporate giving to supplement federal and state grant program concept designs

Richard is responsible for all IT and related issues for the Department of Psychiatry. This includes security and system (s) access, databases. He also represents Psychiatry on all Information Resources related issues. Provides departmental consulting services on operational issues, departmental/divisional structure, workflows, and personnel utilization. He also oversees communication issues for the department, including the department's newsletter. He is a part of the department's management team. He has four direct reports.

•Provide consulting services to Huron Consulting Group’s higher education service line. Client work has included interim management and grant writing work at George Washington University, Harvard University, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and iPCS. Duties have included serving as departmental Directors, providing both pre-award and post-award services, financial and organizational responsibilities, and participating in proposal editing and writing.•Provide practice development work for the Higher Education service line. Assisted in the organization and development of a new training product offering. Contributions included the organization, development, writing, and editing of the training session.

•Direct and provide research administration services for the Department of Neuroscience. These services include recruiting, hiring, terminations, reviews, compensation, training, visas, and compliance of all human resource policy and procedures for both faculty and staff. The department started with approximately forty-five employees and has grown to more than ninety. There are twenty-two faculty in our department. •Manage and supervise five employees. •Develop and manage state budgets for the department. Manage and oversee some eighty-five funding sources including NIH grants, state funds, private awards, endowed accounts, and gifts. •Responsible for overseeing pre and post award activities including grant preparations, grant budgeting, routing, electronic submissions, post award expenditure management including cost transfers, effort reporting, direct charging activities, and general research and fiscal compliance monitoring. •Review animal protocols for grant submission to comply with IACUC at UTSW. Assure that research efforts and environments are in compliance with existing protocols and that staff are properly trained for using animals with regard to those protocols. •Approve all departmental expenditures for support of medical research including goods and services, service contracts, controlled substances, biological agents, capital equipment, and all payroll expenditures.•Serve on UT Southwestern Medical Center Human Resource Committee. •Oversee administration for the Neuroscience Graduate Program. •Provide backup and administrative leadership for Department Chair, Thomas C. Südhof, M.D. Dr. Südhof is a member of The National Academy of Sciences, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, Professor of Molecular Biology. Provide coaching to faculty and staff on his behalf, approve grant submissions and reports, assist with department and laboratory management, and meet all university operational deadlines.

•Provided budgetary and management services for the southwest region including UT Southwestern in Dallas, Baylor College of Medicine and Rice University in Houston, and The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in Oklahoma City, OK. Served more than thirteen Investigators in Dallas, nine in Houston, and three in Oklahoma. Responsible for annual and ongoing budget creation and implementation, budgetary policy and procedure for all goods and services, service contracts, check requests, on-campus purchasing, Service Centers, and capital expenditures.•Site management and project management for several disciplines in science including molecular biology, structural biology, neuroscience, cell biology, immunology, and physiology. Including laboratory interactions with all personnel.•Served as administrative liaison between The Howard Hughes Medical Institute and UT Southwestern, Baylor College of Medicine, and The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.•Managed department vendor relations for medical research goods and services procured. •Backed up site Manager with regard to all policy, procedure and operations.

Served as a staff accountant in their retail shopping centers and office building holding divisions.
