Richard Van Staten was an entrepreneur from the start: making his way from mowing lawns to becoming director of Electronic Data Systems’ Medicaid Eligibility program in Texas at the age of just 24. From there, managing information systems and interfacing between public and private entities became his specialty. After executing and dozens of major projects and modernizations in addition to putting many others that were troubled back on track all over the country, including many that were first of their kind: significant government programs in Iowa, Texas, and Michigan, leading mergers and acquisitions in California, and technical projects in Washington, D.C. He settled in Michigan as Senior Director of an IT division with oversight of clinical and business applications serving over 10,000 doctors. Henry Ford Health Systems, a nonprofit managed care provider, entrusted Richard with the tech that keeps their 100,000+ annual patients managed by 30,000 employees. He continued his modernization efforts for state governments as a leader with oversight of dozens of technologies in short-time frames. For a solutions-oriented tech expert like Richard, the biggest challenges are always the most enticing ones. Client Executive State Of MichiganState Of Michigan Aug 2011 - Jun 2015Lansing, Michigan, UsRichard Van Staten was a Client Executive at the State of Michigan and in charge of the Project Control Office (PCO) and Project Management Office (PMO). He was fully in charge of the modernization for the business and systems for the Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA), which consisted of moving away from a series of legacy systems and modernization to updated and cloud-based systems. Richard Van Staten oversaw approximately 400 staff members from various vendors, state employees, as well as his own consulting group. The projects included implementation of a Tax and Benefits systems with a product called FAST, which was the largest of the projects. Additional projects included Genesys Computer Telephony Integration (CTI), Genesys Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems, SAS Fraud Detection Analytics Systems, overhaul of the call center processes and procedures, switching banking systems for UIA from Chase Bank to Bank of America, OnPoint Financial Recovery Systems, Judging systems, Cybersecurity, and several more. The project was the largest going on in the State of Michigan at the time. Other consulting firms were attempting something similar in other states over much longer periods of time and without success, but Richard Van Staten was able to complete all projects on-time and under budget by approximately $8M. The OnPoint Recovery project won a NASCIO award, which he not only implemented, but wrote for the State of Michigan. The other portion of Richard Van Staten’s position was to expand business for the firm he was working for at the time, which included expansions to seven (7) additional agencies over just a two-year period. This included new projects in Secretary of State, Treasury Department, Transportation Department, Workforce Development, Office of Retirement, Department of Technology Management and Budget, Corrections Department, State Police, Talent and Investment Agency, Lottery and Gaming Agency. -

This included hundreds of systems that operated the entire network of seven major hospitals in the Detroit Metro area, all ambulatory sites, as well as a large network of physicians. Richard Van Staten also managed all Clinical applications including Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and all applications and equipment, networks, and hardware infrastructure for the health system. This included products from Epic, Phillips, Thomson Reuters, and dozens more for the purposes of keeping the actual hospitals running including ambulatory, ICU, NICU, etc. Overall, he modernized both divisions in hundreds of ways over his five-year tenure. -

These products are generally used for Sales Force Automation (SFA), Marketing and Campaign Management, Customer Support, Help Desks, Knowledge and Training, Workforce Management, Client Tracking, Contact Centers and Call Centers, and many other functions. Richard Van Staten also worked on the hardware side of each of these implementations which includes networks, servers, server management, data warehouses, cloud infrastructures, modernization of legacy systems. -
