Richard Washington III is a television news executive with more than twenty years of experience in the broadcast journalism industry.He is currently a Senior Recruiter for CBS News and Stations.Most recently, he served as the News Director of WTIC-TV and WCCT-TV the FOX and CW network-affiliated stations in the Hartford/New Haven market which broadcast 61.5 hours of locally produced newscasts each week. Under his leadership, WTIC was awarded four Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, a National Edward R. Murrow Award and won more regional Emmys than any other television station in Connecticut. Previously, he was the Assistant News Director at WCNC-TV in Charlotte, N.C where he served as interim news director and led the news department through the 2020-21 coronavirus pandemic, Super Tuesday, Election Night coverage, WCNC’s Inequality in America series and Black History Month. He was part ofthe team which received a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast in 2022. Prior to working at WCNC, Washington served as an Executive Producer at WCAU-TV in Philadelphia where he led coverage on several major news stories, including the Bill Cosby trial, Southwest Airlines mid-air crash, Eagles' Super Bowl win and Delaware prison hostage standoff. Before that, he was an Executive Producer at WBAL-TV in Baltimore where he helped coordinate coverage on several national stories including the Freddie Gray riots. Washington began his career as a producer at WWBT-TV in Richmond, V.A. and went on to produce at television stations in several large markets including WBTV-TV in Charlotte, WAGA-TV in Atlanta and WTTG-TV in Washington, D.C. Washington was born and raised in Prince George's County, M.D. He is a graduate of the S.I.
