Dr Richard Webby is a passionate technologist who enjoys delivering great customer experiences, significant operational efficiencies, and revenue growth through the application of data, AI, and digital technology. He is currently the Chief Product and Technology Officer for a software-as-a-service startup with the mission of protecting the global food industry from biosecurity risks. Prior to that, Richard was the Managing Director, Digital for Optus, with responsibility for directing the commercial activities of the digital channels to increase e-commerce, digital self-service, and customer engagement.At Scentre Group, Richard brought together the IT and Digital teams to launch a new leasing workflow system, an online membership program, a digital gift card, and a marketplace platform. For over ten years, he served as Vice President, Guest Experience Technology for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, based in Los Angeles, where he delivered multiple large-scale e-commerce programs and transformed the theme park experience using digital technologies. Richard also worked at several Internet scale-up and start-up companies while based in New York City.Richard has a Ph.D. in Information Systems from UNSW, where he was a Senior Lecturer earlier in his career. He has 20 publications and holds 4 international patents. Recently he has resumed his association with the university as a Professor of Practice, where he has taught seminars for the AGSM on Leading Digital Transformation and advised on industry-leading curriculum design.
