After being commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, Air Defense Officer at the University of Delaware, reported to Fort Bliss, TX. Graduated #1 in Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic Class and #2 in Short Range Air Defense Class. Upon course completion, was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, KS and commanded a Redeye (now Stinger) section in 1/28th Infantry Battalion. After that unit was permanently moved to Germany, remained at Fort Riley and moved into similar role in 1/63rd Armor Battalion where that unit was rated #1 of all similar units in the Division. Upon returning from Germany, my original 1/28th battalion commander became the G-1 / DPCA (Personnel) for the Division and brought me to work with him on the General Staff where I was promoted to 1st Lt. and separated after 3 1/2 years to pursue a career in the civilian sector. Very proud to have been able to spend time in service to our country.
