I am a technology and data lawyer.I’ve been helping people buy and sell technology, services, and data – mostly in a regulated environment – for over 15 years. This spans both advisory and transactional services - but the common thread is helping people understand, manage, avoid and allocate the risks that arise in these areas.I add most value in environments with complex regulatory or technology factors - such as where regulations are nuanced, inconsistent, or vague, the laws are outdated compared to the technology, or a new technology changes the fundamentals of a business process such as cloud computing, electronic signature, distributed ledger or AI.In financial services, I am often bringing the ‘tech’ into FinTech – working with FS, banking, regulatory, risk advisory, and consulting colleagues. As 'software eats the world, I also help pure technology offerings navigate legal issues as they seek to dis-aggregate and disrupt incumbent FS institutions.This work lets me observe recurring legal and business processes, which I enjoy deconstructing, and systemising, in tech assets that we build, manage and licence to pre-emptively solve client problems. This ranges from software we licence to clients, to ‘knowhow’ assets – but in each case the idea is to leverage our central role to let us deliver value and speed to clients. In doing this, we conceive, build, and operate legal tech software on a global scale, to the highest security and performance standards.
