While in AVL North America's Systems Application Engineering/Service group, I directly supported advanced emissions analytical instrumentation used in the development of new engine technology and after treatment systems to meet current and future governmental emissions requirements for on and off road vehicles. This included advanced support for FT-IR gaseous emissions as well as PM emission sampling including Partial Flow mass, Microsoot mass, and Particle number measurements. I worked in the laboratory of Professor Gary Glick in the Chemistry Department at the University of Michigan characterizing the target binding site of a small molecule drug candidate with therapeutic bearing on autoimmune and inflammation disorders. The drug target I investigated is part of the mitochondrial ATP synthase and its mode of action bears on mitochondrial dependent apoptosis. A manuscript of our findings was published in a 2009 edition of Biopolymers.

I developed problem based learning (PBL) and process oriented guided inquiry learning (POGIL) modules as substitutes for traditional lectures in introductory chemistry and advanced biochemistry courses.
