Materials and Installation Services, Rolling Stock EnhancementsI am responsible for the management of SNC-Lavalin’s turnkey procurement and installation activities for Rolling Stock Enhancements. I have line management responsibility for a team who undertake the planning and procurement of materials, contracting of labour and modification of rail vehicles on client’s premises. My key responsibilities include: • workload planning to optimise utilisation of the team and bidding for future work; • building relationships with new and existing clients to generate new opportunities; • developing SNC-Lavalin’s turnkey capability; • tendering for significant projects; • ensuring that safety of site working is planned and continuously improved; • maintaining my teams continuous professional development. I am also the project manager for an innovative project integrating a wheel slide protection system to a fleet of UK rail vehicles. The project has won rail industry awards and is currently progressing to time and budget. I am responsible for managing key stakeholders and the SNC-Lavalin design, approvals, installation and procurement activities.

Auckland is currently undergoing an ambitious redevelopment of it's urban rail network. New trains, new electrification and new ETCS level 1 signalling. I am a part of the team within Auckland Transport delivering the new CAF electric multiple unit vehicles to the Auckland Electrified Area. My current duties include:- coordination and undertaking of Interfleet design review activities, - development and review of test protocols, - working with the manufacturer to ensure satisfactory close out of review packages/modifications etc.- type test coordination and witnessing on the first of class test train. Reviewing systems such as traction and braking, HVAC, PIS, ETCS, gauging, accessibility etc.- coordination of IV&V activities to ensure safe vehicle operation.- liaison with manufacturer, operators and network owners to obtain network running rights.Beyond anything else the Auckland EMU project requires you to be adaptable, and to work effectively as part of a small team delivering a large project.

Working as the Section Head for Engineering Design at Interfleet Technology, Richard is responsible for the management of standards and resourcing of Interfleet's Rolling Stock Enhancements design office. Key responsibilities include:- workload planning to optimise utilisation of the office. Approximately 15-17 direct reporting mechanical and electrical design engineers.- bidding for future work, - maintaining and developing Interfleet's engineering design capability- development of his teams continuous professional development.Richard is also currently project design manager for an ongoing rail vehicle refurbishment project. The scope of the project is to facilitate the installation of vehicle accessibility modifications to ensure vehicle compliance with TSI PRM legislation.

Richard is a Chartered Senior Engineer with a Masters degree in Rail Systems Engineering and Mechanical Engineering together with railway experience and training gained with Interfleet.He is an accomplished project manager and design engineer with extensive experience of rolling stock refurbishment.Richard has successfully managed Interfleet’s design team on Eversholt Rail's Class 320 refurbishment, Grand Central Railway’s refurbishment of their Class 180 vehicles; as well as acting as design engineer for the Class 158 Cambrian Line ERTMS installation. He has led multi-disciplined design teams to facilitate the installation of vehicle accessibility modifications to ensure vehicle compliance with TSI PRM legislation.Richard is a strong team player with technical and project management abilities.

Working as a project manager at AMRC within the Process Technologies Group (PTG), I work to apply the latest technology and innovative techniques to produce and integrate machining solutions that deliver step changes in quality and cost. My role manages a range of assignments through the whole project lifecycle, from inception and scoping, to execution and delivery. I work with major multinationals such as Boeing, Rolls Royce, Sandvik and a multitude of other suppliers; working to ISO9001 requirements.
