Conduct PREA Audits - Prisons, Jails, Community Correctional Facilities. Compliance Inspector, National Detention Standards.

I served as a team leader for inspections of detention facilities managed (or contracted with) the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. I was responsible for on site management of the assigned inspection team and submittal of inspection report documentation. The reports I submitted were inclusive of recommended compliance ratings measuring facility compliance with either the National Detention Standards (NDS) or Performance Based National Detention Standards (PBNDS). Inspection sites were at multiple locations throughout the United States and U.S. Territories.

I served as Account Manager for Technology Systems International (TSI). TSI is a firm located in Scottsdale, AZ that develops and markets radio frequency identification (RFID) security technology for detention and correctional facilities. The technology is inclusive of proprietary software; hardware; and staff training components. The system provides a real time tracking mechanism for inmates / detainees as well as a staff safety component. My role was to serve as liaison between the company and client facilities in Illinois and Ohio. I provided logistical support, staff training, trouble shooting, and assisted the facility in developing local policy and procedure to guide use of the system.

At time of service, this agency housed in excess of 42,000 inmates and monitored in excess of 31,000 persons on parole status. I managed Districts 3, 4, and 5 encompassing all adult male correctional centers, community correctional Centers, and parole offices for Southern Illinois. Facilities within my area of supervision included 17 major correctional centers and a host of satellite facilities. I have extensive experience with opening new or newly renovated facilities. I began my career as a Correctional Officer and moved through the traditional security chain of command. After leaving uniform ranks, I held the positions of Asst. Warden of Operations, Warden, and finally Deputy Director. During my career with IDOC I worked at, or had regional management oversight, of facilities representing all security levels.
