Recruited by the founder of this privately-owned group of companies to fill a year-long CFO vacancy, I was tasked with raising capital and positioning the company for potential sale in the near term. The group wrote residential property coverage in 11 states, with top-line growth of over 70% during my tenure. Responsibilities included:• Treasury and capital management, including banking, lender and investment portfolio manager relationships;• FP&A, including annual budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning;• GAAP and statutory accounting, regulatory reporting (yellow book), tax compliance and payroll;• External audits of the group’s statutory and GAAP financial statements;• Board of directors reporting, including audit and investment committees, and shareholder relations; • Rating agency (Demotech) relationship, maintaining an ‘A’ rating; and• Reinsurance accounting involving complex quota share and excess of loss treaty arrangements.Key accomplishments:• Negotiated and closed a new $10 million long-term debt facility at very favorable terms, along with an extension of our $5 million revolving line of credit; and• Guided the company through its $100M acquisition in April 2021 by Porch Group (NASDAQ: PRCH), a home services and technology firm. Worked directly with buyer’s executive team, attorneys and auditors in financial diligence and led the creation of SEC-compliant condensed interim financials and footnotes for inclusion in buyer’s Form S-1 SEC filing. Buyer asked me to stay on as business unit CFO post-deal, but I chose to resign my position after helping with post-deal transition and financial integration in the months following the acquisition.

Led accounting for this private equity-owned group of companies which wrote residential catastrophe risks in 13 states, had over 230 employees and grew premiums by > 50% during my tenure. My team handled GAAP and statutory financial reporting, external audits (3 GAAP, 3 Stat), NAIC reporting for three filers, board and audit committee presentations, treasury and cash flow management, tax compliance and oversight of 3rd party managers of the company’s international holding companies. Key accomplishments:• Transitioned to new Big 4 auditor, reducing fees by $100K; no recent audit adjustments or control findings; • Reduced the time required to complete monthly financial close by four business days;• Conducted regulatory financial presentations, gaining approval for cost-saving company structure changes;• Facilitated M&A diligence during sale of the company and purchase accounting for the business combination; • Managed several income tax audits and regulatory financial exams with no significant findings; and• Saved $200K annually by reorganizing team to reduce headcount, while developing new manager.
