About Richard Amos

I have 20+ years’ experience in the software engineering arena, specifying, designing, developing, testing and deploying all manner of solutions to solve business problems. From telephone systems that eliminate the need for running copper in the "final mile", to helping automate the processing of invoices for Accounts Payable departments, and in my latest projects, building global labelling systems for the Life Sciences industry. In that time I've come to realise a number of things: ► Keeping it simple pays huge dividends on many levels ► Harry S Truman, had it right when he said “It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.” ► I get a buzz out of helping an end-user successfully deploy something that I've helped build ► There is such a thing as a stupid question - it's the one that was thought of but never asked ► A good engineer is a lazy engineer, by which I mean, if you have to do something, do it right, do it once, reuse as much as possible. Ideally, someone has solved a chunk of the problem for you alreadyAs I have taken on more senior positions within an organisation, my roles have tended to follow a pattern; implement aspects of the software product using a variety of languages/environments (C++, C#, UNIX, Windows, Javascript, HTML), become the "go-to" guy for the application and then support the business during customer deployments, ultimately ensuring project success and happy customers! To ensure success, I’ve learnt how to communicate with all levels of an organisation from C-level Executives to Production Line Operators. The businesses that I've worked for have recognised the value that I bring by awarding various "Employee of the ..." awards to me for delivering above and beyond expectations. I also enjoy the positive feedback from customers that I've interacted with, who appreciate what I do and how I go about it.

  • Prisymid
    Principal Architect
    Prisymid Mar 2012 - Oct 2015
    Wokingham, Uk
My initial role within PRISYM ID had me working with the Product Management team and leading a team of developers to define the next generation of PRISYM ID's labeling product. This involved reviewing the existing PRISYM ID product offerings which had their beginnings ten years previous and working out a modern way of delivering similar functionality. Along with existing functionality, the Product Management team had identified a raft of new features which were then incorporated into what became the PRISYM 360 product (http://www.prisym360.com).The next phase of my role within PRISYM ID was to design, develop and test parts of the PRISYM 360 product. The approach taken was to build a modern web-based client with a back-end served by Microsoft's IIS stack, C#, the .NET framework, server-side Javascript and a database abstraction layer implemented on top of NHibernate. I was primarily responsible for designing and implementing the back-end database and services required for the PRISYM 360 system to operate, the goal being to be able to run when connected to either a SQL Server or an Oracle database. My current responsibilities at PRISYM ID are ► take select customer solutions from project kick-off all the way through to project completion and sign-off, building a strong collaborative relationship with the customer as the project progresses ► mentor the Professional Services consultants in delivering customer solutions using the PRISYM 360 platform ► get involved in the later part of the Sales cycle with customer presentations and workshops in order to better understand what the customer's needs are and how we might be able to meet them ► provide consultancy to customers on how they can best configure and use the PRISYM 360 platform in order to meet their business needs
