About Richard Sims
Experienced and commercially sensitive I have been running projects and developing new business across multiple sectors where the cost/feature blend is paramount. These are often to challenging timescales and involve multiple disciplines, including mechanical, software and electronics design.As a CTO/VP of Engineering I have successfully managed teams developing projects from conception, through budgeting and planning, to transfer to production and successful manufacture, including managing manufacturers and suppliers across the world from small to major multinationals. I have also been involved in many fundamental technology developments, which have resulted in successful application of the approach in high volume consumer products. As part of this development process I have several patents to my name. There are over 30 million devices in the field using technology that I have either directly developed or project managed.Still hands-on when the role requires it, I have extensive experience in both hardware, firmware and software development. I have architected (and been directly responsible for) massively scalable cloud platforms for both start-ups and large multinationals, especially with a focus on connected devices and the IoT.I have a keen interest in AI/ML, vision systems, IoT, robotics (and mechatronics), and how they can be applied to solve real technical challenges.In my current role (after a successful acquisition of CCS by Adtran) I head up Adtran's enterprise wireless activities. This involves running a multi-disciplinary development team, comprising of electronics, embedded software, cloud software and mechanical design engineers working on the world's first mmWave self organising mesh for Gigabit backhaul and access, Adtran's IoT initiatives and our cloud managed business WiFi solution, Bluesocket.
