Getting to the bottom of challenges across industry to develop solutions that can impact economic and societal challenges. The Explore work stream aims to solve industry challenges when there isn't an existing off-the-shelf solution but there is evidence it can be solved and a business value and motivation to solve it.Key responsibilities and tasks:• Develop programmes of work in key industry and government sector areas to develop new capability, and drive to proof of concept stage, using high performance computing, AI, data science and modelling and simulation.• Develop opportunities and relationships with external organisations in the programme interacting with all levels of staff from R&D to C-suite.• Ensure projects (104) are constructed to maximise impact for partners.• Provide leadership to cross functional teams.• Work closely with legal, IP and licensing teams to enable sustainable partnerships with maximum ROI.• Develop project plans, including estimates, work breakdown structure and schedules• Track project progress to ensure project team meets objectives within defined timescales and budget• Identify key project milestones, sub-deliverables• Co-ordinate and direct project team resources• Ensure all deliverables and benefits are achieved• Identify project constraints, issues and risks

Key duties and responsibilities: • Provide vision and strategy for the Hartree Centre chemistry and materials team, aligned with industry and government priorities.• Oversee the team’s delivery of objectives, digital assets, and ensure adequate resourcing, including personal development and recruitment. • Develop high level partnerships with industry as a basis for co-development of leading technologies. Acting as relationship manager for key accounts.• Secure funds to support the programme through academic grants and commercial work (in excess of £4m of commercial funds secured to date)• Promote a vibrant and collegial culture aligned with STFC values.• Ensure effective communication within and between the team and its stakeholders.• Management of the computational chemists in the team.

Coordinating, promoting and undertaking industrial application of modeling and simulation using high performance computing. Successfully delivering projects to tight industry timescales.Successful projects have been carried out in partnership with Unilever, Infineum, Syngenta, Datalase, Sun Chemicals & Victrex.Key responsibilities:• Management of complex projects ensuring successful delivery• Develop collaborations securing high level partnerships• Undertake, coordinate and promote simulation using HPC• Manage customer expectations• Act as point of contact for all levels of management internally and externally• Plan and scope projects appropriately• Perform scientific simulation in industry and academic fields

Formeric develops software and modeling tools deployed through light-weight platforms for formulated product development. These tools augment the process of chemical experimentation, delivering step change in the speed of product development by increasing the scale of trial formulations and focussing lab based experimentation. The Formeric service integrates into existing formulated product development, allowing users to predict outcomes in silico. This is both quicker and cheaper and comes with added insight compared to standard laboratory experiments.Formeric is designed to complement existing laboratory-based product development process and aims to:• Offer increased throughput of experiments by leveraging scalable HPC cloud solutions;• Provide tailored easy-to-access HPC services;• Offer candidate chemicals options for specific application by using a database of supplier chemicals;• Provide insights by understanding fundamental interactions at the atomistic scale using during the in-silico experiment, aiding IP development;• Reduce waste generation during manufacturing by providing guidance on how to adjust formulation composition to account for variations in supplied chemicals.

Worked on an multi-disciplinary industry led project (MI-SWACO) to develop new and improved clay swelling inhibitors for oilfield application. Performed computational research and facilitated knowledge transfer between project partners.

Performed computational research in the field of clay based nanocomposite materials for edible packaging applications. In the role of industrial liaison officer pioneered a website defining what CAMS could offer to industry.
