Rick Bigelow Work Experience Details
  • Deutsche Bank
    Director - Regional Finance (Funding)
    Deutsche Bank Jan 2008 - Aug 2010
    New York, Ny
Requested by CFO to revamp the process by which funding costs are assigned to all Businesses, covering over 300 Entities. • Pinpointed weaknesses of current funding process which was causing over $250 million of unallocated interest.• Developed methodology based upon capital usage to allocate excess interest expense.• Solicited support of key stakeholders (Treasury / Front Office / Finance) throughout the Bank. • Resolving the unallocated interest gap required developing a fully transparent process ensuring complete balance sheet coverage. Solution involved detangling the current funding process from both an IT perspective (e.g. mapping tables, exception processing) as well as a trade capture perspective (front to back processing).
  • Deutsche Bank
Director - Credit & Operational Risk Controlling (Quality Assurance),
    Deutsche Bank Jul 2002 - Dec 2007
    Frankfurt Am Main Area, Germany
Transferred to the Head Office in Germany to strengthen the internal control environment by assuming responsibility for global quality assurance across all reporting regions, processes, products and data elements used in credit reporting and risk calculations (e.g. Economic Capital, Risk Weighted Assets, General Value Adjustments.) • Built and managed team consisting of 16 individuals. • Established a formal reconciliation process between risk and the financials including standard break templates and a global break methodology approved by external auditors (KPMG) and Regulators (BAFIN). • Developed and implemented a comprehensive, standardized, bank-wide quality assurance framework which quantified data quality issues (exposure, collateral, limits, ratings etc.) into meaningful statistics where data quality could be monitored and improved (included Problem Loans, Banking Book Collateral and Specific Loan Loss Provisions.) • Rolled out a new General Value Adjustment process across all entities moving away from a general high level calculation of GVA to using expected loss based off transaction level risk data. Data and process highly scrutinized as the new GVA process was the first time risk data impacted P&L. • Created and implemented formalized roles and responsibilities (QA Standards) across Departments which clearly outlined data owners as well as specific data processing and reporting task. • Established validation process by which banking book collateral was signed-off for use in credit risk calculations. Removed work-arounds, defaults and exception processes implementing pragmatic, standardized solutions. • Implemented a global quality assurance framework designed to improve completeness and accuracy of Operational loss data ensuring compliance with BALII advanced measurement approach (AMA).• Responsible for ensuring compliance with SOX requirements across risk types (Credit, Liquidity, and Operational).
