About Rick Blacker

As a software engineer, I've worked with technologies such as C#, .ASP.NET, NET CORE, Entity Framework, NODE.JS, SQL Server, C++, Unity3D and Unreal Game Engine. I’ve worked on many exciting projects with talented engineers extending these skillsets. Alongside software engineering, I’ve also worked in the industry as a developer evangelist and technical marketer. Developer evangelist responsibilities include creating /publishing code samples for public consumption, traveling to various events presenting technical code samples and material helping people ramp up on specific technologies. One of my favorite aspects of the software development lifecycle is, the beginning. I love designing the architecture of how a system will come together, the technologies used, and then designing out the object-oriented codebase and all their interactions, roles and responsibilities. Even after all my time in the industry, I still feel like a kid in a candy store when working on fun and exciting projects. Most recently I have worked with the Unreal Engine helping add features to a High Fidelity Digital Twin project (HFDT). Further, helping to bring SaaS capabilities to the HFDT while running inside Unreal Pixel Streaming technology all hosted inside Microsoft Azure.

    Senior Software Engineer (Unreal Developer)
    Boeing Mar 2023 - Sep 2024
    Arlington, Va, Us
Working as a software engineer on a team developing High Fidelity Digital Twins (HFDT) software using the Unreal game engine. Using C++ and blueprints, integrated HTTP Rest APIs transferring JSON data back from web API into HFDT. Developed demo application using Unreal blueprints, C++ and Cesium to replicate a flight path in a real-world environment. Demo reads in CSV data, including starting GPS location, loads Cesium scene at that GPS location. When running the demo, app dynamically reads CSV data to fly the drone based on offset and 6 DOF data. Created a full play head that would start, stop, pause, reverse, fast forward, fast reverse the flight path.Used Unreal and Cesium together to create a proof of concept that could read airport runway GPS locations, heading, distance to lay down spline generated airport runways. Worked with co-worker using Microsoft Azure servers to host Unreal HFDT Pixel Streaming applications allowing users to interact with our HFDT applications in a browser rather than forcing a local install. Using database and web APIs created functionality that allowed for monitoring HFDT Pixel Streaming activity, user logins, user custom settings and file uploads.
